I haven't tried it but I don't see why it wouldn't as long as you are using incandescent bulbs. It is not designed to work with cfl and led bulbs.
I'm not sure but, I would think if it can decrease the amount of wattage it would work for you. Also I would be concerned why your lamp is stuck. It could pose a problem.

I don't recall but I'm using a standard bulb. I've had no problems. Read the manufacturer s recommeded bulb to be on the safe side.
