A:  Parker - Re>{ Could this 'WESTINGHOUSE' as a Garage and Pool Water Heater, etc.?} Sir: a) FIRSTLY and Very Critical .... This "UNIT" has absolutely NOTHING-To-DO w/ our old, famous Corporation!! ..... rather, a deliberate, clever "PLOY' to disguise the FACT of it;s Korean Design and Origin. b) - Although NOT a critical Item in your specific Instance - as it WOULD BE during the Winter Heating System for One's Home, - Parts / Local Timely Servicing WILL BE A PROBLEM. c) Most-assuredly, this will NOT be a typical "D.I.Y.' weekend project, as it definitely requires a LOT of specialized Skills / Training / Equipment / etc., to ever establish proper Combustion without a prohibitive "HOWLING" and / or those stated Ultra-High Efficiency Levels. d) - To ever accomplish heating YOUR existing 'DEMANDS' in Winter and / or The POOL in Summer will seem to require a Larger Heating Plant??? .... I.E. - WHAT might the output of the existing One be, please?? e) - Moreover, in prior postings, this "Corporation" has strongly recommended to buy a different Unit, whenever there will NEVER be a connection to the internal Loop / system for Domestic Hot Water Heating connected. f) - In the LONG HAUL or "BIG PICTURE" over the 20-25 years that s / b the anticipated Lifetime for these sorts of Hot Water Furnaces, I should stay with strictly Domestic-Designs & Brands....

A:  robert - 3 /04th - - Re:{Confirm that this will heat BOTM my proposed new Building as well as DHW?} Sir: 1) - First - Please DO realize that this is a Heater Unit designed & manufactured entirely OUTSIDE U.S.A. - ever has had any "CONNECTION" whatsoever with our former, famous 'WESTINGHOUSE CORP' and simply a 'PLOY" to distrack / confuse / conceal that fact!! 2) - Absolutely No Nationwide Distribution Network established for Emergency Parts, and / or Skilled Staff with which to provide timely-service during a failure in severe weather! 3) - NOW - your 'Question' is quite impossible to be answered without having a complete set of the working drawings of the proposed Structure, Location, prevailing weather there, Nature & Details of Construction, etc.. The application of the Methods of Decades-old, 'Manual "J" are a must in order to accurately derive the "Heating Losses" or Load, which, in turn, will determine the BTU/Hr capacity needed for any Central Heating System. 4) - This or any Other Hot Water Boiler, together with the Huge Myriad of piping, controls, Baseboard radiation, Circulation Pmts with their associated Wall Stats, Initial Calibration of Burner to NOT 'howl' grossly and yet, achieve that extremely=high Efficiency is 100% beyond the 'SCOPE' of anyone NOT specifically-trained & licensed to do so! 5) - No local Contractor will ever "touch' this Unit .... they will install whatever Brand of Central Heating System that They are an authorized Dealer for & represent BUT, never another about which they will have zero knowledge. 6) - Unless One happens to reside in extremely-cold, far-northern Regions of these United States, there is No means of ever "paying-back" via Energy Savings the Huge Installed / Completed Expense plus future Servicing Costs for these "Ultra-High" Efficiency Heating Units. 7) - Much-More straightforward, simply, conventional, fan-forced Hot Air Furnace / Duct System plus a standard Domestic Hot Water Heater will be Far more Practicable, in my experiences! - - - - Thank you for your most-complex Project & Question! - - - eli2

A:  Paul - 01 / 22nd - - Re"}My old U.S.A. Boiler is failing - will WESTINGHOUSE replace?} Sir: (A) - ' WESTINGHOUSE ' as well as 'boiler' are entirely misleading! (B) - Korea is the home of this maker ... they bought the name of our Famous Corporation as an eye-catcher only .... has ZERO to-do w/ that failed Business Unit. (C) - NOT A BOILER .... absolutely can NOT generate a single oz of pressure above atmospheric! (D) - NO National Servicing Dealerships established / No Strategic Warehouses for Quick or Timely Customer Service on replacement Parts! (E) - Extremely-short of Technical Design to deliver the copious Volumes of HOT Water to which we in America take for granted .... Korea does NOT usually have multi-baths / Dishwashers / large Auto Clothes Washers / etc., etc. within their comparatively-tiny Homes! (F) - Havin any 'Local' servicing company attempting to service during an emergency shut-down, in Cold Weather might proved to be quite useless. (G) - In My Experiences, LOOK ADDITIONALLY!! - - - - - eli2

A:  Postscript to / for: 'Paul' - 01 / 22nd - - Re:{ Will this 140,000 btu/hr Unit Work?} Sir: (A) - Assuming that the Name Plate Data might be either missing or NOT legible on the existing Boiler, you would be needing to have a Heat Loss Evaluation performed, using the methods of the heating industry standard 'Manual J.' (B) - A 'Floor Mounted' Unit would permit a much-less "crowded" Boiler Interior Compartment in which to perform the needed Installation / connections! (C) - Unless your 2750 Sq Ft Home is unusually-well-constructed, meaning Double-hung Sash, insulated Exterior Doors w/ Magnetic Weatherstripping, maximum-possible Insulations Systems for Exterior Walls and Attic, etc., etc., those Heating Losses will cause a 144,000 btu / hr unit be Far, Far too little, especially should this ALSO heat your Domestic Hot Water? ... the best of Good Fortune in your searching! - - - - eli2

The boiler broke after only 2 years
All those negative review comments are true. The only warranty is for parts for 1 year. I was totally scammed. A sensor above the circulator pump leaked and shorted out my pump. Not premium at all. Plastic parts and poor quality, and engineering.

I really love the efficiency of this unit and i like the use of the outside air temperature reset, keeps the house at a comfortable temperature while saving energy and money. The logic and software interface is very easy to use and navigate. I also like not having to worry about igniting the pilot, the unit is stand alone and plug and play.

Had this extremely quiet, suit-case sized combi-boiler professionally installed replacing old oil...
Had this extremely quiet, suit-case sized combi-boiler professionally installed replacing old oil boiler and 80 gallon electric water heater in our 160 year old, 3 story + basement, 2400 sqft, historical home in Philly suburb. Using both DHW and it also heats the house (combi use) through existing water radiators. Works well and our heating bills have been cut in half so it should pay for itself in about 2.5 years (unit plus installation). Only problem is on really cold days (20 degrees or less) it can't maintain 72 degrees downstairs (more like 68 degrees) but upstairs stays 72. Looking to better insulate basement to improve heating on those extra cold days. Another bonus is that it is so small mounted on the basement wall, we essentially have a new work room in the basement where the old huge oil boiler had been. What an improvement. The old oil boiler shook the entire house whenever it fired up. This unit is whisper quiet and we don't feel any vibrations. Is it even on? Also called Westinghouse support a couple of times for minor settings help and they were great. PECO ran gas line from our street to the house for free which made this a no-brainer and I believe greatly increases our homes resale value.

            Absolute garbage. Stay away.
Technical support as follows: Call Westinghouse. On hold for 55 minutes. Ask for plumbers in the area who can help me. The response: call a certified plumber. Absolute piece of garbage machine. Unfortunately purchased a house that had one of these already installed so was stuck with it. AVOID.

              HORRIBLE
Stay away from this unit. I have had it for 4 years and have had nothing but issues with it. It broken down the first year and has been breaking down EVERY year since it was installed.

the dhw side works fine, but the hot water for my radiant heating side gives a error 10 message and shuts down
The main control board has been replaced 3 times. Hard to get manufacture to respond to my hvac contractor. unit was installed and signed off by hvac contractor. less than 2 years ago. Has new worked right.
