No. It comes with a large diameter flexible vent hose, kind of like a dryer vent hose. The hose fits into the back of the AC unit and into the plastic piece that fits in the window.

Unfortunately, NONE of the window A.C. units are made for tall, sideways sliding windows. The slider included are only 47 in. I put that on the bottom of the window opening and cut a piece of plexiglass left from another project to fit the remaining opening and used white duct tape to hold it in place. Works great. But I knew I would have to do that when I bought the a.c. unit. My windows are 72 in.

I live on the top floor of a 4th-floor walk-up in a railroad apartment. The heat gets trapped on the top floor and it's hard to get a cross-breeze in a long narrow railroad space. It gets extremely hot in the summer, at least 10 degrees hotter inside than the temperature outside. So when it's 70 outside, it's 80+ inside. In the peak of summer, it can be in the 100s in my apartment. But we have always only air conditioned half the apartment to save money and be environmentally conscious. We just let the other half of the apartment stay hot. But now that both my partner and I are working from home for an extended period of time and not able to go outside other than for essentials due to COVID-19, we conceded that we needed to air condition the whole apartment to make it livable on hot days. Because of the layout of the windows and the fire escape needing to be accessible in the half of the apartment that we never air conditioned, a window unit was not going to work. So I had to get a more expensive portable AC. I did a LOT of research before I settled on the Whynter 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner and I'm glad I did. It was easy to assemble/install and it does an excellent job of cooling the awkwardly long area of my apartment, a little over 300 sq ft. The AC is in the kitchen by the window and my desk is down a short hall in the next room over, about 40 feet away, and it cools the kitchen, the hall, and the windowless room I work in so well, that I have to turn it down or even off sometimes. And the remote works from very far away. I was worried about the noise a portable AC would generate, but it's barely louder than a tower fan. I can hear it running, but it's not bothersome; I don't have to worry about it when I'm on a work call. When I don't need to run the AC, I need the fire escape accessible for safety, so I can't just leave it in overnight. The caster wheels make it easy to move away from the window at night, on cooler days, or over the weekend when I'm not working in that space and I want to just leave the window open. The power cable and the exhaust hose are both six feet long, which makes it easy to position the unit in the most efficient way for the air to be directed in my space. And I really appreciate the self-contained reservoir for the water to collect once it's been pulled out of the air, so I don't have to worry about constantly leaving a bowl on the floor to collect the water, as I've read some portable ACs require. I haven't had to empty the reservoir yet, but it looks like it will be easy to do. I will likely just wheel it over to the tub, lift it up, and tilt it over the side. But you could probably position a bowl or shallow basin under it when it's ready to be emptied if you don't have a tub nearby. So far I've run it for four humid days without the reservoir hitting full yet, but I can hear the water collecting occasionally, so I know the dehumidifier feature is working. The price was also excellent. After all my research I determined what features I needed (10 to 12,000 BTUs, good energy rating, internal easy-to-empty reservoir, one fairly long reach hose and long reach plug, good castors, remote control, as compact as possible for the BTUs), and for everything I needed, this unit is a great value compared to others with similar features. Portable ACs are just going to be more expensive than window units, but this was the best deal I could find on a unit that had everything I wanted. My only complaint would be the same for any portable AC and I knew it would be an issue when I decided to buy a portable AC instead of a window unit. It's bulky and a bit awkward in my small space. It's like having an R2D2 in your room with a long hose connected to it. There's nowhere for me to push it out of the way when I'm not using it and the hose collapses most of the way, but obviously not completely. And by design it's in the middle of my kitchen when I am using it. But there was no other way for me to cool my space and a smaller unit would not have been sufficient. So if you have a small apartment and you need a portable AC as powerful as this one, just be prepared to make some space for it in your living area. And be aware that it is heavy. I think it is about 70 lbs, so if you need to carry it up several flights of stairs like I did, make sure you have help. This unit is so great in every other way, though, that it is definitely worth it. Highly recommended!

Unit is large but on wheels. Cools to 61° though it doesn't feel that cold in the room. It is comfortable. Had to hire someone to install in crank-open, tall casement window using kit, boards and white duct tape. Will likely stay in year round.

I have had this unit a total of 1 week and it has been AMAZING! Prior to getting the unit I wasn’t sure what to do to get rid of the humidity and lower the temperature. I haven’t even used the air conditioner setting because just using the dry/dehumidifier setting. It has gotten rid of the moisture and kept our home cool. I couldn’t be happier!

Bought this air conditioner to replace a portable LG air conditioner that died after only three seasons (last time I buy an LG product). Looks solid, easy to install and cools the room nicely. But I've only had it a month. I'll be in a better position to rate it a few years from now.

I've had this Whynter unit for almost three weeks and I couldn't be happier with its performance. I have a small (650 SF) condo and this unit in conjunction with a strategically placed tower fan has been able to cool down my whole apartment to a comfortable temperature, even during the humid 90 degree days we've been having lately. I've been running the unit in "cool" mode and haven't had to drain it yet - it is definitely living up to its self-evaporating claims.

We haven't yet had enough heat to put this unit to the test, but so far it seems well constructed, for the most part. The window attachment is indeed plastic, but it seems sturdier to me than others have reported and it fits either of the windows shown in my photo. I will invest in some insulated weather stripping for the window, however. I agree that the addition of vertical adjustment on the vent of this unit would make sense. It's a curious shortcoming, and I'm wondering if I'll need to place the unit on some pedestal or otherwise direct the airflow upwards to balance the room's air temperature.
