Q:Does it have climate control? I.e, to cool down to a set temperature and vice versa, to warm up the space to a temperature?
by|Dec 22, 2022

Answer This Question

A:  We have had this unit for two years now and we have been very happy with it. After it is set up for either Winter months or Summer months you can set the unit to a temperature and it maintains it. In winter months and very extreme temperatures it works just a little harder to keep temperature. Again we have been very pleased with the way it works.

A:  Once set up in my attic, I use both hoses year round. Both hoses are vented into separate attic space, approx 3 ft apart. Intake pointed down, exhaust pointed up. Works well.

                      Very disappointed!
Let me preface this review...I have been in contact with their customer service and was not satisfied with the response. We had this unit for 18 months when it suddenly leaked it's coolant all over the floor and was no longer anything but a giant fan. I was told it was most likely a leak in the compressor. It is covered by a warranty, but there is no local repair service. I can disconnect it, load it in my car, haul it somewhere and pay to have it packaged, to their specifications, and then pay some more to have it shipped back to them so they can look at it. We paid over $450 for this and it lasted 18 months. We have many appliances in our house of comparable cost, ranging in age from 5-25 years old, that have never even had to be serviced. We certainly have never had to package them up and ship them back to the manufacturer for repair. I suggest you find a product with local repair available.

The Whynter Elite 12,000 BTU Duel Hose Digital Portable air conditioner with heat/ drain pump & dehumidifier met my expectations and then some! My Central AC didn’t get enough AC to the attic floor. This air conditioner did the job. I am so happy and pleased with this purchase. The room gets cold quickly. I haven’t tried the heat yet because I haven’t had it but one month now, but if it works as well as the AC, then I will be truly pleased. I highly recommend this product.

I have had this little beauty running in my office/mini datacenter for over a month now and have had no problems at all. My only small complaints are that the window covers don't fit my window and will require cutting and the top drain plug was not tightly twisted on after delivery. If someone is having trouble with this device, then you also have to ensure that you allow at least 4-8 hours for the unit to stand upright before using it initially. I love this unit and will definitely recommend it.

I've owned this product for a while now. Have had some troubles with it and took it apart to examine what's going on. Overall, the entire field of "portable" air conditioners are bordering on a scam. Single hose air conditioners can't work. They cause hot outside air to be sucked into your house elsewhere, blows out heated air conditioned air, while blowing some cold air, giving the illusion that its working. Its not a very reputable field. This unit is an exception in that it does use two hoses. It should always be used with both hoses, or used with no hoses if you're using to dehumidify. The good... - The unit generally works. It can produce very cold air in the 40s. The BTU rating doesn't seem anywhere near accurate. Much lower, but still effective. It helps if you can insulate the exhaust hose some. Its blowing hot air outside and hot exhaust hose can warm up the room you're trying to cool off. Putting a blanket over it can be enough to greatly cut down on radiant heating. - This unit is rare in that is can effectively run as a heat pump. It pumps out a decent amount of heat. I've roughly figured that it seems to pump out about twice as much heat as a small 1500w space heater while using 1/3 the electricity. Thats pretty good (with outside temp ~45 degrees). It stops being effective below around 40 as is true of all heat pumps. - It can be used as a dehumidifier, although I've found it marginal. You can't control when or why it cycles on and off. Seems almost random or based on temperature rather than humidity. The bad.... - Generally poor design, poor software design and implementation. As a software engineer I find it so frustrating when I see products that are 90% of the way there, yet mess it up with software bugs or missing features. - The unit sometimes shuts off. As in power off. I have no idea why. Haven't figured out the pattern. - When switching modes it instantly switches modes which is silly. It should wait to see where you've ended up by waiting a second or two after you've switched. What inevitably happens is that if you try to switch modes you'll go through either heat or cool and the compressor will kick on, then off because you went to the next mode. But too late, you've run the compressor recently and it will sit silent waiting 5 minutes before running the compressor again. - The remote has its own setting independent of what the unit says. If the unit is set to heat and 70 but the remote thinks its 80 and AC, and you up the temp to 81 on the remote, that changes the unit to 81 and AC. Can be confusing. Use one or the other. The most serious problem has caused me to completely disassemble the unit to figure out what's going on. Water can easily collect in this unit and overflow causing damage to your surroundings. In our case, flooding our carpet and causing mold problems in the carpet because we didn't notice it. The entire bottom of the unit is NOT a drain pan. Its only a tiny sliver under the condenser coil is a drain pan that the internal pump will pump out. The rest of the bottom is plastic molded with pockets and seams for strength, not designed to handle nor channel water. However there's a spinner motor which is intended to purposely spray water on the condenser coil. If airflow is restricted, or if the unit is in a high humidity area, condensation and water can form all over the inside of the unit with no way of escape. Eventually the entire bottom area, with its many many pockets and grooves fills with water and spills over. The sump pump does no good in this case because that small area may well get drained but is not connected to many other places where water can collect. Bottom line. The unit can work. Be VERY careful running it in high humidity environments as it can easily become wet/soaked internally in places that cannot drain. Make sure the outside air intake and exhaust are clear and can provide high airflow. The unit is finicky in its various modes.

A little noisy and the window attachment didnt match up to my window. Had to cut and use strips to cover gaps. The adjustable hose gets water droplets between grooves because of curtain on the window. The output of heat and air is excellent. I have it in a bonus room over the garage.

                            Excellent value
We live at the beach in Florida and purchased this unit to remove the humidity in a downstairs 400 square foot bonus-room. It was easy to install with the sliding adapter to connect the hoses to the outside that fits inside the window. I had to cut about 3 inches off the slide because my widow was too narrow, but it was easy with a regular hand saw. I also purchased a 12 length of self adhering insulation to close the gap around the hose kit - worked well. I have used the unit on all three settings; cool, heat and dehumidify. It has worked well and have not had any problem with excess condensation build-up; the exhaust evaporates all of it so far. I purchased this unit because it has an axillary pump that will pump out excess water through a small tube (I ran through the screen to the outside but has not needed yet). Great unit in a hot and humid environment so far.
