    Answer This Question

What is PlasmaWave® Technology? PlasmaWave® Technology safely breaks apart odors, allergens, chemical vapors, and other pollutants at the molecular level, without causing harmful ozone. PlasmaWave® creates positive and negative ions that combine with natural water vapor to form hydroxyls, which cleans the indoor air.

We bought this air purifier 10 months ago. We’ve pretty much kept it running 24/7. It’s very quiet and has been an awesome air purifier for the main living part of our home. The “check filter” light came on about a week ago so I ordered the replacement filter. OMG. I could not believe the difference when I compared the new filter to the old. I can’t believe we used to breathe in all that crap! I would definitely recommend this air purifier!

A very easy set up. Started cleaning air immediately and smells so fresh and clean. I love the automatic button. Very quiet. Don't even know it's there unless it kicks up higher. Have one in bedroom and one in livingroom. I have moisture issues in this old house, so they work hard at times. The replacement filters are relatively inexpensive. They are very nice looking purifiers as well. I recommended them to my friend and he bought 2 of the $218 .

Fast Efficient Air Cleaning, Auto Fan Speed, Great Air Quality Control
When looking for an air cleaner it's important to size the machine to the area you need to clean and the levels of air pollution you will encounter. This P450 model is good for an area approx 450 square feet, meaning it can do a good job in large rooms or a couple smaller joined rooms. From taking this out of the box to operating the air cleaner will take at best, 20 minutes. It's quite simple to figure out how to use it, and the manual helps you along. You'll get used to it within minutes and then it's intuitive. This comes with four carbon pre-filters and one HEPA filter. The filters push into place inside the machine and should last in an average home about a year before you need to order a new set. Of course if you have a lot of air pollution in your home the filters will clog faster. The machine has a filter change light to let you know when it's time. Filter swaps are fast and easy, taking a few minutes at most. To operate this you'll use the touch screen on the top or the included remote control. In my experience the remote was not very good. If you are more then ten feet from this the remote had spotty reception. I set it to Auto so I'd have no use for the remote anyway. The touch screen was popped loose on my model and I had to snap it back into place. It works fine, but it's still a little bit popped out, I can't get it all the way back in. Since it didn't affect performance or operation I left it alone. You can barely notice it anyway. The settings you can adjust are fan speed in manual mode, from Low (whisper quiet) to Turbo (you can clearly hear it across the room but it's not oppressively loud). You can press the Auto button and the machine will sample air quality on it's own and adjust the fan as needed. When in Auto mode it will also sense when the room is dark and only run on low so as to not wake anyone up. The Plasmawave feature can be turned on and off at will by pressing the Auto button for a few seconds. The air quality gauge will change colors letting you know how polluted your air is. It's pretty sensitive. Even cooking or vacuuming in another room will send it into poor mode and cause it to switch to high fan speed and clean the air for you. I like that. This is a relatively large machine but it fits into most rooms fine. It's about two feet tall and 18 inches wide. If you want it to clean a large space as this one does, it has to be big. So far this has removed almost all the odor of a house full of new carpet. It also removes the odors from a cat litter box within a few minutes of the cat using the box and has kept us sneeze free with the ragweed blowing around. I also paint in the basement and they no longer notice the odor on the first floor. Aside from the minor quality control issues with the remote and the control panel popped out, this is still a nice air cleaner and I'd recommend it. It's nearly silent in low mode and I like that one machine can clean so much space. Add in the three year warranty and I'd recommend this air cleaner to others.

Good air cleaner, but missing some features.
This is a solid 4-star air cleaner! The Winix P450 is the largest model of this series designed for rooms up to 450 sq ft. Very easy set up which is clearly illustrated on the unit. Pretty much just take it out of the box, take off the plastic bag from it and remove the front cover panel to access the filters inside. Take out the filters, remove them from their bags and put them back inside. This step shows you how to access the filters for when it’s time to change to them. Reinstall the front panel and you’re ready to go. Plug in the unit and turn it on. The air cleaner looks great. White and black and has a stylish design. Seems to have good and durable construction. Has a 6 foot long (black) cord that comes out from the back bottom right corner – if you’re facing the unit. The four fan speeds are well spaced. The quiet is indeed quiet and is hard to hear. The Medium is manageable to watch TV with while the High is noticeably louder but does push a lot of air. The Turbo mode however is very loud and pushes a ton of air through! The remote control is small and slim. It has 5 buttons: On / off, increase / decrease fan speed, turbo and auto. The display panel has the following (left to right): ** All the “buttons” are touch sensitive and do not press. - Light sensor - provides normal operation in a well light room. When the room is dark the fan defaults to the quietest mode and all the LEDs on the display dim - Power button - On / Off switch - Speed button - when touched allows you to override the auto mode and select a desired fan speed: Quiet / Medium / High / Turbo - PlasmaWave (top) - just an animated display showing if the feature is turned on or off. You can turn it on or off by holding the Auto button for three seconds (mine works) The PlasmaWave feature is designed to clean the air furthermore on a molecular level - Air Quality (bottom) - displays the quality of the air in the room. Has a backlit display bar from Good (green lights) to Poor (red light) with orange lights in the middle - Auto button - when touched resumes operation to auto - Reset button - to reset entire unit - Check filter light - should light up when it’s time to change the filter - Air Quality Sensor (only works in Auto mode) - will control the fan speed depending on the air quality Pros: - Air quality sensor - Looks good - Good spacing between air speeds - Has a remote - 6 ft cord - Filter access is easy and tool less Cons: - No timer - No wheels or feet - Filters aren’t washable - LED lights are quite bright - Auto mode and Air Quality Sensor are disabled (by Light Sensor) when dark with no override Overall a great air filter that cleans the air well. However it could still use some improvements. I wish there was a manual override button to turn the light sensor off. When it’s dark in the room the light sensor dims the lights and automatically sets the air speed to quiet regardless of the air quality in the room. Sure, you could still manually control it and override the fan speed if necessary, but that defeats the Auto setting. Also, wish the unit had wheels or feet as it’s a bit wobbly without them. The lack of timer is also a disappointment. I cannot comment on pollen control as I do not have allergies. But I do have a cat in the house and it certainly helps eliminate the smell from the litter box. This is my first Air Cleaner and I am happy with is so far.

                            Clean, Fresh Air!
We love our new HEPA air cleaner! The unit is about the height of our bed and we placed it right at the corner - they say it shouldn't be too close to the wall, so the foot of the bed is perfect! It's a nice white color with a black strip going from the bottom to the top where the controls are. I'm not sure if the controls are haptic, but we only lightly touch them and the unit responds. There's a neat graphic of the air filtration system operating - a nice touch. Our HEPA air cleaner does a great job cleaning the air! We have it in our master bedroom and it clears the smell of our dog or any unpleasant odor coming from outside (we keep the windows open most of the time). It's very quiet at low speeds, but it does get a little louder when running at the higher speeds. You can hear the some of the noise in the video I made. It not only comes with a True HEPA filter, but also has Plasmawave technology. We're familiar with this technology; a couple years ago, we had a Camry Hybrid with the Plasmawave in the air conditioning system. The air would clean up really nicely in the car. Overall, this is one great air cleaner. HEPA filter and Plasmawave ensures that the air is super clean! I highly recommend it.

quiet & stylish: time will tell how effective it is
So, the first thing I should say about this device is that it's a good deal bigger than I thought it would be. In fact, it's bigger than any other air purifier I've owned before (or seen in someone's home). That may or may not be an issue for you (luckily it wasn't for me, where I'm using it right now), but this is *not* a "put it on a dresser" model. This is a floor model that needs space and clearance, so a bunch of the warnings in the manual (e.g. don't place it too close to drapes, don't put it on a thick pile carpet, etc) are more relevant than most such. That said, the unit isn't that heavy for its size, and the setup was a breeze (no pun intended). The tiny remote that comes with it sits in a little bracket that *can* be wall mounted, but also comes with a little adhesive square to mount it onto something smooth. In this case, I just picked the side of the unit itself. The unit has 4 speed settings. Since I'm not using it in an active bedroom, I can't comment on how it would be to sleep with it on the different levels. I can say that from where it is now (right inside the doorway to a small bedroom (but not being used as such)), if it's on the lowest setting I *can* hear it when i sit in the adjoining living room, but i have to actively listen for it. And since I would suspect most people wouldn't be sleeping with it on anything higher than the low setting, I'm going to say it would be unlikely to interfere with sleep. The one thing I will not really be able to comment on until much later is how it deals with month after month of shedding cat hair (I have 2 cats). I suspect I might have to change the prefilters a bit more frequently than the manual suggests. However, the room it is in is where the litter box is, and as far as I can tell it *seems* to be reducing litter box smells that used to make it out into the living room from time to time. I've had it set up for a week so far, so I don't have a lot of data to go on, but so far so good. That is, in fact, one of the main reasons I chose to get this unit (the other is to deal with the cat hair/dander, as well as seasonal pollen that infiltrates the house), so if it manages to keep doing a good job on that i'll be a happy customer.

                            WOW - Powerful
A very powerful and high end looking air purifier. i have 2 black labs so his is a must for any dog owner. I have a Homedics True HEPA air filter large room air purifier which will be taking the back seat on this one. I have a large living room which this is perfect for. the P450 is the biggest of the FresHome Series. It is for rooms up to 450 sq ft. My wife says it sounds like a plane taking off (at the Turbo setting). Has Turbo, High, Med and Quiet. I just set it to AUTO and the Air Quality sensor monitors when it needs to go on. On thing i did like about the Homedics Air Purifier is that it had timing settings. So you could run it for a set amount of time. Comes with 3 Carbon replacement filters. You can buy an extra set of filters for $89 which should last a year. Setup time is less than 10 mins from opening box to using. Comes with a remote so no need to get off the couch. 18.9Wx11.8Dx25.6H
