How to wire this timer to a 3 speed blower attic fan.

To control a 3-speed fan you will need a separate speed control switch. The speed control switch is usually included with a multi-speed fan. You also have the option of only using the top speed and omitting the speed switch. The timer must be connected on the supply side of the speed control.

No, I never had a problem with this device. Have you verified that there is no voltage at the red wire? Motors (fans) need full voltage and current in order to get started. If your switch is set to "low" it may not have enough juice to start the motor.

is it hrs or minutes ?

Im assuming if its a two speed fan, that it came with a high/low switch. I don't know if you have to, but I did. I bought a separate high/low switch, because it had an off switch if it was positioned in the middle. But yeah, your idea make sense, that it would be one or the other with just the timer.

Can you set the timer to turn the whole house fan on every 4 hours for 1 hour?

Not directly. This timer works once for the period of time selected. You would need to manually turn the fan on every 4 hours and select the 1 hour time period to turn the fan off after 1 hour.

Press the button repeatedly until the time you want lights. That stays lit until it shuts off. Then the off light comes on.

Got this for an attic fan about 2 months ago. It has seen little use since then, but it does the job intended and should not be subject to the problems that have plagued mechanical timers I have used in the past. It's easy to hook up and simple to use. A problem it unavoidably shares with mechanical timers is that it fills up the box and leaves very little space in the box for the wires and wire nuts. Use an oversized box if that option is available to you. Note also that it requires both hot and neutral conductors to be present in the box. This is not always the case with existing switch installations.

It is kind of bulky to fit in the electrical box with all the other wires so it was kind of hard to get it to lay flush with the cover. It works great though. We bought it to control our whole house fan and we're happy with it.
