my manual on/off button does not light, but the display shows on and off when I toggle the button. light does not work

Asked by kanaka January 19, 2021

Answer

I don't know why yours doesn't light. My manual button lights with a red light, I assume that it is an LED, when the light is on. This happens whether I turn it on manually or if it turns on by programming.

No, you have to program both on and off times. However, you can always turn it on or off manually before the programmed time and it will stay on or off until the programming is set to turn it the other way. We do exactly what you want to have yours do all the time. We have ours on the kitchen lights and it is programmed to turn on around dusk and off around 11:00 pm so that it looks like somebody is there when we're gone. We frequently turn the lights on before dusk when we are around and they stay on until the "off" program time. We also turn them off manually sometimes before the 11:00 pm setting. They stay off until the next "on" time.

I gave several of these. The timer has a program mode, a standard on and off mode, and a random program mode for security. When not in program mode it works as an on and off switch. I have not seen any of them go automatically into program mode.

Does the"on" switch override the programming, manually turn light on? Or does the "on" switch turn on the programming?

No matter what you have programmed into the unit, the "on" switch will turn the unit on (light will go on if connected to a light) when first depressed and turn it off when depressed again. No matter what state the switch was in last, the programming will resume normally for the next programmed state change. For example; if the program is setup to turn on a light at 7PM and turn it off at 11PM then the following will happen: 1- At 8PM the program will have the light "on". If you depress the switch, the light will turn "off". Depress it again and the light will turn "on" again. It will toggle on and off with each successive depression of the switch. If you depress and leave the switch in the "off" position between 7-11PM (when the program wants it to be "on") the light will remain off until 7PM the next day (regular program will resume). 2)- At 1PM the program will have the light "off". If you depress the switch, the light will turn "on". Depress it again and the light will turn "off" again. It will toggle on and off with each successive depression of the switch. If you depress and leave the switch in the "on" position between 11PM and -7PM the next day (when the program wants it to be "off") the light will remain "on" until next time 11PM comes around (regular program will resume). So, yes, you will still have the ability to turn the light on and off as if it was just on a normal switch. but the next programming cycle will resume no matter what state (on or off) you left it. I hope this helps.

Worked about a week then the display gave out.
Worked about a week then the display gave out. Could not change any of the settings (needed to because getting dark later) because the screen went blank. Tried resetting and removing power but no luck. It is unusable after a week.

This is my second purchase of this timer for a second application I have. It works as good as the first one. Easy to program, works great, wiring was easy, user friendly and very practical too use. If you know basic electrical, and wiring you will have no problem with this timer. also has internal lithium battery backup so if the power goes out it keeps everything.

Replaces a single pole switch but is larger in the box. Make sure you get the black line and load wires correct. Easy to program, even has a random setting to change up the start and stop times to look like you are home. Would recommend

(used for front light sensor porch light) Comes on even on overcast days. I live in a older house with two pole wiring so I didn't use the ground wire. Also have a small (two switch) box, the timer takes a bit of space so it was a tight fit (get the wires & wire nuts out of the way) I'm just a DIYer and it was easy to install and easy to set. (easy to follow instructions) The on-off switch lights up (red) when it's on so you'll know. And it works!

The first time I saw this switch was when I hired an electrician to add an external outlet for some deck lights. We are in our next house and I bought this and self installed it for the outside front lights. There are 7 programs that can be used along with an illuminated, manual, on/off switch. When the lights are on, the on/off switch illuminates. This is a simple, effective, and IMHO, reasonably priced switch. Watch the specific model number that you purchase to match your wiring environment. Some models REQUIRE a neutral connection in order to operate, others do not.
