I prefer these mechanical outlet timers over the electrical ones because they are easier to program and adjust. There is a dial where you turn the arrow to point to the current time. Along the outside of the dial is a circle of little popup pegs where you can indicate the on/off times of the item you want to plug in. It is very easy to adjust and you can even have whatever you plug in turn on and off multiple times throughout the day, if needed. This particular outlet even has a little light that illuminates when plugged in. This one has a three prong grounded outlet so you can plug in nearly anything. It has a switch on the top of it where you can easily flip the outlet from "on" to "timer". It works great for lamps or holiday decorations.

Woods 24 Hour Heavy Duty Plug In Grounded Outlet Mechanical Timer. This is your standard mechanical timer that is rated for indoor only. Couple thing I really like over fancy digital timer, #1 it is very straight forward and simple to set with 96 pins in 15 minute increments, #2 it has a LED indicator light so you know it has power at a glance, and #3 the override button is easily accessible on the top not on the face. I really like 5he oblong structure so you can get another single plug in on outlet. Great value for the money.

This little light timer is perfect for home security. While it will not set off an alarm it does give you fantastic control of your lighting. The pins set at 15 minute increments so you can have a light come on for as short as 15 minutes or hours AND you can have it come on and off as often as you want. Set one in your kitchen/dining room then after that one in the living room in the evening, then another in the bedroom around your normal bedtime. If you routinely get up in the middle of the night then set another in the bathroom. You will surely have the crooks confused. Try setting on on your TV also or a radio. Then vacation or travel away from home in peace my friend. It does cover a socket if used in the bottom socket.

This is a great timer! It took only minutes to set up on the schedule we wanted, and we just love, love, love that we still have use of the outlet!
Another feature that's nice, is that there is a "bypass" switch on top, so if you want to use the lamp (which is what we use it for) as normal when you're home, you can still turn the lamp on and off. It also doesn't seem to make any clicking noises, which is why we replaced the old one.

As expected, this timer has 3 prongs so is grounded for outdoor use. It has ONE receptacle on the right-hand side of it. It measures 4” long by 2.25” tall and will stick out about 1.75” from where you plug it in. If you plug it into the top outlet of your double wall outlet, you can still use the bottom outlet on your wall. It will repeat your cycle every 24 hours (in other words, every day will be the same on/off times). You can choose multiple on/off cycles in 15 minute increments. There is a slide switch on top so you can set it to “on” (and turn your lights on or off at the source) or “timer.” On the front, on the right side of the face, there is an LED light that is on during the dark cycle and off during the light cycle so you don’t have to wonder if your lights are off because there’s something wrong, which is a nice touch. To set the time, rotate the dial clockwise. The dial rotates easily and doesn’t hang up. After setting your time and before you plus it in, et your tabs: tabs up means lights will be off, tabs down mean the lights are on. About the only complaint I would have with this is that it seems as if it might be smaller. If it was smaller though, it likely wouldn’t be symmetrical and that would bother me more than the fact that it is slightly larger than it could be. The timer is made in China and carries a one-year warranty.

Very compact timer and very easy to install and program. The rectangular shape design works well as it does not block the other outlet in the wall. The vast array of program intervals is a great feature especially if you're going to be away over an extended period of time. As to the LED indicator light, it would be nice if it stayed on all the time so that you know the timer is functioning - it only comes on when the timer comes on. Now days with all the three prong plugs and plugs that have one big side and one normal side it would be nice to have a feature on the timer that allows you to rotate the plug on the back of the timer so it can fit into any outlet or hard to reach places.

Outlet timers are essential in my home. Most of the lamps are on timers so they come on and turn off even if I am not home. The problem with most timers are that they are big and bulky, and block both outlets. The Woods Mechanical Timer only blocks the outlet it is plugged into - genius. The timer has "pins" so you can program it to go off and on as many times as you want in a 24 hour period. Although the timer itself is grounded, it only takes a 2 prong plug. I gave it 4 stars because the PM (gray) part has white numbers that are very small and extremely hard to read. I think it would have been better if the numbers were in a bolder black.

We installed the Woods Mechanical Timer on a water fountain in our sunporch to have it On while we’re normally awake and Off overnight in order to save wear on the pump and to not waste electricity. However, we also wanted to install a nightlight in the same outlet’s other plug but it would not fit with the timer in either spot.
Though the timer is rather compact, when it is plugged into the bottom spot, it partially covers the upper rendering it unusable. So if you want to use both wall plugs, you must install it in the upper. Even then, any slightly larger items (like our nightlight) won’t fit under the timer - only small, corded ones will.
As far as how well the timer operates, it does very good. The pins you set are fifteen minutes each, giving you sufficient flexibility for most applications though not nearly as precise as a digital timer would do. It includes the standard override switch to manually turn it On or Off. The indicator light is only lit during the On settings and then it goes out for the Off period.
Overall, the timer functions quite well but despite its compactness, it has some limitations in sharing the outlet.

This is a review of Woods’ “New” 24-hr Heavy Duty Mechanical Timer, Item #50103WD.
In general, I like Woods’ products. I have many of their products and they have never disappointed. Good bang for the buck.
Now, let’s talk about this new product.
Maybe you ought to consider buying them up, keeping them in their original packaging, and storing them in your attic. Because, if they’re not relics now, they will be 50 years from now.
The world’s gone digital, with LED displays; haven’t they heard?
The feature that makes this a winner for me is that it allows you to use the second outlet in a conventional duplex receptacle. [NOTE: the second receptacle is only available to a grounded plug if the timer is in the upper outlet; if you plug it into the lower outlet, the top of the timer obstructs the ground pin of the upper outlet.] Just about everything else is “same old, same old” … not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Is it quiet, you ask? Very … a great improvement. Is it easy to use? Very … but you might need more than a fingernail to set the pins [96 of them, i.e. 15-min intervals].
I believe this is as simple as it can get, no?

Not sure why no one has come up with this design before. With a "peg" for every 30 minutes, programming the light (or whatever) on or off is easy and straight forward...and can be done multiple times each day: the package says 90 times! I like the LED "power on" light as well as the easy ability to override and merely turn the lamp on without messing up the settings. The sleek design makes it easy to plug something else into the same outlet, although if you're doing so, it's best to plug this one in the bottom outlet for easier access to the other. Also the design makes it easy to grip to plug the time in and to remove it. Great timer!
