Q:Will this work for oil based paints?

Answer This Question

A:  While this cover could be used, we would recommend using our Wooster Pro High-Density Woven 9 in x 1/4 in (internet #300616379) with oil-based paints. Our Wooster Brush customer service is available for help in choosing your next applicator at 800-392-7246.

Q:Could I use this to cover large slab kitchen cabinet doors rather than a 6" 1/4" nap roller?
    by|May 29, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  The Epoxy Glide is an excellent roller cover for back-rolling floor coatings and epoxies. We would not recommend it for use on a kitchen cabinet. We would recommend a woven or microfiber. A 1/4" nap is excellent for very flat surfaces, but a 3/8" nap would also work well for this project. If looking for a 9" cover, you might be interested in the Wooster Pro Woven 9" x 1/4" (see internet 300616379). We also offer a Wooster Pro Microfiber 9" x 3/8" roller cover (see internet #305238113). Both of these options would offer a smooth finish. Wooster Customer Service is also always available to help at 800-392-7246.

Q:Is this good for applying self-leveler?
      by|Sep 28, 2021

      Answer This Question

A:  If you want to back roll the Self-leveler with an epoxy glide, that will work well. To Apply it, I would not recommend. I would use the Wooster Specialty cover that is a looped plastic. if any further assistants is needed we welcome calls to Wooster Brush customer service at (800) 392-7246.

I used this roller and another 1/4 nap roller and found this roller did apply the 1-part epoxy slightly smoother. I was able to use one roller to paint a 20X20 floor. I did it on a warm Florida day and painted the threshold by the garage door first. I then started at the back of the garage and painted approximately 4X6 sections as I worked my way to the front. When I got the threshold, it had dried so I could exit the garage. I took about an hour break. I submerged the roller in the paint pan to keep it from drying out. I was then able to repeat the process for the 2nd coat. This time I sprinkled the plastic chips into the freshly painted sections. It helped that I had a person doing the chip sprinkles as it made the job go faster not having to stop painting.

I bought these 18" "epoxy glide" rollers to apply RockSolid epoxy floor coating to a 3 1/2 car garage floor. This was the third garage floor I've applied epoxy to over the years so I had more experience than some. In this case, it was a new home with new concrete with about 972 sf. I had two boxes of RockSolid (1000 sf ea) on hand...which is eight pouches of material. In addition to eight of the 18" Wooster rollers also had some 9" epoxy rollers (Store SKU #112364) I purchased from a local HD store. I had enough rollers to use a brand new one for each of the RockSolid pouches, plus four or five more as spares just in case. The Wooster 18" roller was horrible. I used two or three of them, switching to a new one as I opened and mixed new RockSolid pouches. Compared to the 9" epoxy roller mentioned above, the Wooster was very "sticky" and much harder to push. This is expected to some extent since you're pushing twice as much roller around (18" vs. 9"). But in this case, I felt like I was putting down epoxy glue and not a floor coating. I checked the tension on the 18" roller frame a couple of times to make sure it was not too tight. I gave up on the 18" rollers and finished the job with the 9" roller which glided nicely over the floor. The 9" roller seemed to release the epoxy material much easier than the Wooster, which wanted to "hold on" to the material. (based on my experience with my floor at least). What I didn't realize until later was the roller was shedding a LOT of lint. After the RockSolid cured, the lint had worked it way (floated?) to the surface and I had bumps/specks of lint in all the areas I used the Wooster roller. I have attached a picture to show what the cured finish looked like. Where I used the 9" roller it was glass smooth except for a few bubbles from air permeating the concrete. Based on my experience and the amount of shedding with the RockSolid product, I would say to stay away from the Wooster 18" x 1/4 Epoxy Glide Roller cover.

          Response from WoosterBrushJan 6, 2020
We hate to hear you had a negative experience with the Wooster Epoxy Glide. The Epoxy Glide is known to be non-shedding and has been manufactured to release epoxy to the surface. The problem you have described is a concern for us. We would like to contact you to discuss this matter further. We will email you, but also feel free to contact Wooster Customer Service at 800-392-7246.

Used roller to apply an epoxy based finish to a concrete floor. It and it's associated adjustable roller holder worked very well.
