Our YARDGARD 1-5/8 in. x 1-5/8 x 8 ft. 16-Gauge galvanized steel line post is essential for any chain link fencing product. Patented swaged end design (US 11,274,466 B2) for a tighter and more secure fit. This galvanized steel line post is part of the fence framework and helps support the chain link fabric. These posts should be spaced a maximum of 10 ft. apart and 18 in. to 24 in. in the ground based on local municipalities. This post is used for a 5 ft. to 6 ft. H chain link fence.

Q:Would this terminal post be able to support the weight of a 4ft H x 12ft L barn gate that weighs appr. 50 lbs? As well as the chain link fencing attached to the post?

Answer This Question

A:  I have been in the fence business since I was an embryo :) It will not adequately support this gate. With a 12' gate there is so much leverage on the post, even with a 2' concrete footer this 1-5/8" OD post will soon bend. A 2-1/2" OD 16 ga. post is adequate, but still nothing like the old days where we used SCH40 pipe for everything. Home Depot only carries 16 ga. (bigger the number, thinner the gauge). They may also have 2" OD but this is borderline insufficient unless this gate will remain closed.

      A:  16-gauge steel is 1/16" ... times two is 1/8" ... 1 5/8" minus 1/8" is 1 1/2" so the interior of these posts is right around an inch and a half.

            I had 2 rotted fence posts and my privacy fence...
            I had 2 rotted fence posts and my privacy fence was swaying a lot. Went this route versus replacing the rotted fence posts. Bought 2 of the galvanized steel fence post, dug 2 holes, filled with QuickCrete and attached clamps to the fence and it eliminated the sway and made the fence in those 2 sections sturdy again.
