5-Ton Electric Log Splitter with Stand and Log Tray 15Amp

I really like this tool. The leg stand and wheels make it easy to move around.

I've been clearing the brush and trimming trees in my 2-3 acre backyard. Sadly, so many big, beautiful trees, (20-40 years old, based on counting their rings) were killed by vines in 1 summer. I was concerned what size log splitter I would need, whether I needed electric or gas powered, etc. This was the cheapest option, but is really well made, worked great on 95% of the logs, and has given me 0 issues.

First, I don't imagine that I would more than a cord in a season. But we just got a fireplace insert that likes smaller logs (think 1/4 cut), so I will use this for short periods when I pull some off the rack. I put a couple half logs on after I assembled it, and quick and quiet! Motor did the split effortlessly. I looked at a lot of splitters in this range. Few had a log table like this. Best combination of features in the price range.

A tall stand with 7” wheels. Assembly was easy. The machine has good welds, strong steel members, hydraulics, wheels, paint, motor, switches and is of decent quality for the price point. The online manual from YardMax has more information. 8-10” seasoned Siberian Elm logs split without even a hesitation. The unit comes with a two-year YardMax (not commercial use) limited warranty. Overall, the first impressions are great and am very, very pleased.

The unit is heavy! I was able to unbox it and the assembly instructions were easy and clear. Read all instructions. Prior to using there is a vent screw that needs to be opened for the unit to properly operate. It is clearly explained but easy to overlook if not reading in detail. Takes about 15 minutes to put together. Very powerful. Split anything I put on it with ease. It requires two handed operation which was not a big deal. Still easy to use. Love the ease of use of electric tools.

Home Depot didnt really take care in the handling of my order. I did buy 2 yr extended warranty so I wasnt too worried, just annoyed. I got home and unpacked (what was left of) box. Turned out some parts of the hardware kit needed to install the wheels had ripped out and lost through box holes. Completed assembly and tested with some 10 to 15 in diameter logs and it worked fine. As for missing pieces. I called yardmax number in box to register product and explain missing pieces. They agreed to send out replacement hardware kit no charge!

Works great so far with only a 1/2 face cord ran through it. Mostly ash trees. I am giving this 4 stars because it seems to operate ok, but: 1) There are a few cosmetic (hopefully until it rusts) issues as pictured. 2) The "legs" seem to be offset and it stand up kind of sideways and funky (also pictured). 3) I feel that rubber feet should be utilized and provided instead of the metal legs scrapping on the ground. Overall, seems to be a great purchase.

Ship estimate was 7d but delivered in 3d. VERY HEAVY. The hardware pack was previously opened & hardware was all loose in box. Some bolts being barely long enough made assembly tougher. Fits together well & feels very solid. It cuts and resets quickly.

As others have stated, the packaging is horrendously inferior. A splayed box open on both ends arrived at my Home Depot store for pick-up. Styrofoam packing was broken and parts were loose. After an examination of the contents all parts were accounted for and undamaged, thank goodness. The instructions were fine except the detail of how the tray installs. It only requires sliding it into place. No bolt tightening or adding are required. The instructions give the impression bolt manipulation is needed. Assembly was fine and fit and finish seem quite good for a product in this price range. Performance is outstanding. It has handled the heavy, large oak pieces I have thrown at it. Learning how to position or reposition a piece of wood is key to maximizing this splitter's potential. Flipping and rotation are sometimes necessary to 'crack' through the tougher pieces. I waited a couple months to write this review after having used the splitter many different times. Performance has been consistently good. Don't hesitate in buying this splitter. It's a great piece of equipment for the light to moderate user. As much as I am a lover of internal combustion engines this splitter outshines others by offering a simple electric motor. Roll it to where you want to use, slide in the tray and plug it in. That's all there is to it. Good job Yardmax! Now get the packaging thing figured out please. 4 stars ONLY because of the poor packaging.

Okay, we bought this to split wood, make smaller pieces. The first few weeks, my neighbor used it to split 1.5 cords down to kindling size. The next time my other neighbor used it to cut down larger pieces. Today I finally used it to 17inch round oak. However, I ended up splitting them in half by to easier facilitate splitting. The wheels are not the best and the legs seem week. I wouldn't want to haul this to far from home but it makes the job a lot easier of splitting. The hydraulic fluid is very hard to find for this particular machine. At this price point, it is completely worth it since I can now split wood without the difficulties of doing it by hand.
