Q:Plug Yellow Jacket 2877 safely into a 15 amps/4320 Joules surge protector/suppressor? 2877 says it's a surge protector. Surge protectors can't be plugged into each other. Other YJ adapters have 314 joules. I can't find the 2877 joule rating.

The construction feels petty rugged.
The construction feels petty rugged. I’ve seen complaints that some similar devices trip or shut off when they are unplugged. This one stays on when it loses power and only trips off when there is a fault or the test button is pressed. The only issue so far is that the receptacles are a bit tight, but that is better than being too loose. Overall seems to be decent quality.
I really love my new Yellow Jacket – Yellow Jacket 2 ft. 12/3 SJTW Right Angle GFCI Heavy-Duty Extension Cord with Power Light Plug! This high-quality device is made by Southwire Company, the largest wire and cable company in North America, and is known around the world as a leader in its field. Since I live in an older house, my wiring is sketchy at best so that’s why this portable GFCI is so important. There are a lot of places in my house that have the newer 3 wire receptacles (3-prong), but do not have ground wires attached to them, making them in reality, a 2-wire feed. Since this device doesn’t need a ground wire to operate, but instead measures and compares current flow between the line side (hot) and the load side (neutral), it provides protection anyway. My day starts at sunup, I often find myself dragging an extension cord across wet grass made so by dew or a previous night’s rain. I can do so now with a peace of mind knowing that I probably won’t die of an electrical shock. Best of all, you don’t need any special knowledge to use it. Simply plug it in and use it as you would a 2-foot extension cord. For the money you won’t find a better insurance policy, and I highly recommend you buy one.
Yellow Jacket Model #2877 is a great electrical safety device to use, especially outdoors or in the garage!
The Yellow Jacket/Woods/Southwire Company, model #2877, is a portable 2-foot cord GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) device. This GFCI device is specifically designed to sense and immediately stop the flow of electricity whenever there is a “ground fault” electrical situation. A “ground fault” is when 120-volt electricity in that specific electrical circuit is not properly returning in the electrical circuit and therefore it may be improperly escaping through the electrical device you are using, and that dangerous situation may cause you to receive an electrical shock. It is great to use this GFCI as it has many wonderful electrical safety features built in it. First, it is designed with a heavy duty 2-foot, 12/3 gauge rated electrical cord that is colored yellow for high visibility, especially easy to see and locate in low light working conditions. The 15 amp/120-volt GFCI body is designed to be plugged in at a right-angle electrical connection configuration so it means you can use it in especially tight electrical receptacle locations. The entire GFCI mechanism is also encased in a hard plastic enclosure equipped with TEST and RESET buttons to normally operate the unit. I especially like the visual indication on the output single female electrical receptacle as it lights up whenever the GFCI is properly plugged into a 120-volt electrical outlet and there is power flowing through the GFCI protected circuit. This means it is safe to electrically proceed to use this device. A nice safety feature of the GFCI is that then you plug in the GFCI into an electrical outlet, you must push the RESET button to turn “on” the GFCI. Without pushing the RESET button, the GFCI will not allow any electric devices attach to accidently turn “on”. I use this GFCI extension cord whenever in the garage, outdoors, or when using my electric hedge cutter to protect myself from any dangerous ground fault situations. This GFCI extension cord has been reviewed and is UL Listed by UL (Underwriters Laboratory), an independent test laboratory, for electrical safety. It has a 1-year warranty, and it is made in China. It should be noted that this is a 2-foot GFCI extension cord, not a 50-foot extension cord as this is a typo on the Home Depot product page.
Being a handy man in a cottage community, I often get called out to jobs on some very old vacation homes. Many of these have very antiquated electrical systems meaning very few have GFCI protected outlets. Sadly many of the owners aren't prepared to spend the money to upgrade.
Sometimes I may have to do an exterior repair where no GFCI is visible and theres no way to get inside to check if for a GFCI breaker.
So my simple safe solution was to get this Yellow Jacket 2' GFCI protected extension cord. It instantly turns any traditional outlet into a GFI protected circuit. With it's illuminated test and reset it is easy to see even at a distance if it has tripped. But also, the female end is brightly illuminated when it's in service.
Made of high quality for 15 AMP service, I expect this will probably last my lifetime. And when I'm using it, there's every reason to think it's helping me extend that lifetime.
If you're a contractor, sub contractor or just a DIY'er, you might want to do as I do and keep one of these in your tool bag. It's cheap insurance and high quality.
This is a must have for those that use outdoor electricity. I have purchased a wood pellet grill and I needed a GFCI for the outdoor use of the grill. No need to call an electrician or replace the receptacle in order to get GFCI outside. There is a built-in tester so you can make sure all is well when you are using it. There is a heavy-duty wire, so you don't have to worry about the wire getting hot from drawing too much energy. You'll find many uses for the GFCI plug.
Yellow Jacket 2 ft. 12/3 SJTW Right Angle GFCI Heavy-Duty Extension Cord with Power Light Plug
Anyone who does work around the house, inside or out needs the Yellow Jacket2 ft. 12/3 SJTW Right Angle GFCI Heavy-Duty Extension Cord with Power Light Plug. It provides a grounded outlet with GFCI protection, a circuit interrupter that detects ground faults. Is also a surge protector that protects your equipment from harmful surges. and the female end is lit when power is applied. You plug in your power cord to the heavy-duty cord which lets you insure your safety from electrical shock. Has a Powerlite indicator and GFCI test and reset buttons. with GFCI protection, a circuit interrupter that detects ground faults. Has a Powerlite indicator and GFCI test and reset buttons. I recommend this product.
We are all familiar with the GFCI plugs in bathrooms and kitchens that protect us and this great little product works in a similar way. It provides ground fault electrical protection either by directly plugging an electrical tool in to it or by using an appropriate extension plugged in to it. It is rated at 15 amps - same as the usual houseold current. This is a handy product that provides a big stepup in safety when using your power tools. Like all GFCIs there is a test and reset button and a light to let you know it is at work.
This is a 12 gauge two-foot cord with a GFI built into the plug. So around wet areas such as a pool deck, or where there is a chance for a current surge or just to be safe and turn your extension cords into GFI-protected cords, this is the way to go. It is easy to see in the dusk, and easy to use I like the length. Two feet is all I wanted. Working around plumbing with a saw or drill or cutting tool or what have you, this protects you and your equipment. On my generators, there is an overload button in case I draw too much on one circuit, but there is no GFI. Portable generators typically do not have GFI protection so anything you plug into them is not protected. I think when the gas runs out in the generator, there is a potential for a surge before the generator quits. This protects against that. It you are not plugging into a GFI-protected circuit, using this makes any circuit you use for plugging cords into to be GFI once you plug into the Yellow Jacket. The female plug end lights up to show the presence of current. This makes it easy to know when to reset the GFI as needed. This is a great idea. I am glad I have it.
Yellow Jacket 2 ft. 12/3 SJTW Right Angle GFCI Heavy-Duty Extension Cord with Power Light Plug
This is a very useful item.
I really like the light in the end of the plug that always lets me know if I have power or not.
It keeps me from guessing.
The 12/3 cord is heavy duty.
The angled plug with the gfci protection is very easy to use and understand.
I hope to get many years of use from this item.
I definitely recommend this product.
I now use this GFCI every time I plug in an extension cord. It instantly tells me if the wall socket is hot because the female end only lights up when the circuit is live and the GFCI is engaged. The manual on and off switches are sufficiently large, have a very positive feel, and the power on light is easy to see. The wire is heavy duty 12/3 which is rated at 20 amp so very sufficient for the 15 amp, 120 volt, (1800 watt), rating of the GFCI. It is also nice to know that this protects my power tools from line serge. Not every household wall socket is GFI protected and this is so easy to use that I won't ever again work with electricity outside without attaching this device.
