This model is made in China, generally of cheaper less expensive metals/methods. The forged Yost vises are made in Taiwan using US specs and are far better, both in production and especially in the forged steel vs cast - and considerably less expensive than the USA made ones. Only the quite expensive Yost vises are made in the USA.

Made in USA?
The vise is fine, but the manufacturer's info as to where it is made has not been included on the Home Depot site. A forum where people are trying to find out is not sufficient, Home Depot should plainly state that it is made in China because I was wanting to buy USA. Even the Host site touts Made in USA, but that is only for certain products, not this one.

Dissapointed!!!!
This is my review of the Yost 455 5 1/2" Apprentice series vise purchased online on 5-01-16 from Home Depot store #2707 in Roseville Michigan. I used the ship to store option, received my pick up confirmation email and immediately brought it home and set it on my NEW workbench to check fit and finish before I drill holes to mount it. This purchase was based from great online reviews. The paint job was flawless but noticed some other issues. While operating the vise I noticed a bit of a grinding sound, and the face of the jaws were not hitting flush to each other unless I applied moderate pressure to the lever. I called Yost, actually they called me back, and explained the situation and the customer service rep. replied that these vises are made from cast iron and basically implied 'they are what they are'. I asked for a recommendation of another import vise by Yost and he didn't answer . I decided to keep the unit, drill the mounting holes, purchase $20 in hardware and thoroughly grease all the moving parts hoping in time the vise would break-in. I used the vise for the first time to sharpen my lawnmower blade with a file and noticed the vise was now binding as i rotated the lever, coming from the spring located in the channel. The grinding noise is coming from the clip that holds the spring in place rubbing against the channel. I dismounted the vise and returned it to Home Depot on 5-15-16 and now have the exact replacement on order...my concerns being if a decide on another brand/model the mounts won't line up. I am a homeowner/DIY'er and this was my first vise purchase. I want to support my local economy and choose Yost, but if the replacement vise has issues I will have to look else ware.
