A:  Yost 750-DI (ductile iron) Heavy-Duty 5" Multi-Jaw Rotating Combination Pipe and Bench Vise is made in China to Yost USA specifications and standards. This is the only rotating vise made from high strength ductile iron, all others are constructed from cast iron. Yost 750-DI is at least 2 times stronger than all other rotating vises.

A:  This vice is made from cast iron. (High strength ductile iron per Yost). It is not made from forged, solid steel. I absolutely love mine for what its worth and its clamping power is fantastic.

A:  Neither. The 750-DI vise is constructed with heavy duty ductile iron castings (65,000 psi tensile strength) whereas the 750-E vise is constructed with cast iron (grey iron castings, 30,000 psi tensile strength). The difference in the material of construction means the 750-DI vise can withstand higher torques and applied loads than a typical cast iron vise. The 750-DI, ductile iron vise, in comparison to a “steel vise”, would be comparable if each have the same part metal thickness and overall weight. The 750-DI is rated to 165 ft-lb torque whereas the 750-E, cast iron, is rated to 95 ft-lb torque. The applied load or clamping pressure on the 750-DI is 7000 pounds whereas the 750-E is 4000 pounds. The shipping weight of the 750-DI is 63 pounds whereas the shipping weight of the 750-E is 42 pounds. The 750-DI has replaceable hardened steel pipe jaws whereas the 750-E has cast in place (non-replaceable) pipe jaws. Jaw width is the same on the 750-DI as compared to the 750-E, both at 5". Jaw opening on the 750-DI is 5" whereas the 750-E is 4". Machinists' jaw throat depth on the 750-DI is 4" whereas the throat depth on the 750-E is 3". Pipe jaw throat depth on the 750-DI is 3" whereas the throat depth on the 750-E is 2-3/4". Pipe diameter clamping capacity on the 750-DI is 1/8" - 3.5" whereas the pipe diameter clamping capacity on the 750-E is 3/8" - 3". The 750-DI has a rotating head that features a pull pin for quick adjustments in 12 different locking positions. The 750-E uses a locking set screw to lock the vise at any angle. All in all, the 750-DI vise is twice as strong (robust) as compared to the 750-E vise. I am confident if you select this vise you will be pleased you did for years to come.

A:  The Yost 750-DI vise is not made from forged steel but rather ductile iron, that's what the DI stands for. Ductile iron is made in such a way that it is much stronger than standard gray cast iron. I've had mine about a year and it's a heavy-duty, versatile vise that I'm very pleased with.

Other buyers said big and heavy. Yup big and heavy. The jaws on mine line up. I have used the the pipe jaws also and they work great. I also ordered the yellow plastic jaw covers. I'm saving one star because I had a small ding that was done in casting and the rotation locks feel a little cheap. Use 5/8 bolts to mount this thing. I had to beef up my table from the HF one I broke with 2x6's. I hope this lasts I've only held some stuff I welded so far.

Go ahead and make YOUR day !
Purchased Oct 2015. Arrived in excellent condition at store. see photo. Bolted to bench and it would NOT rotate smoothly. Removed swivel base with one bolt. Dressed up casting teeth with Dremel tool. Man O man, is this steel tough to grind! see photo.Poor quality control of casting. Next mounted base on drill press table and SLIGHTLY ground off tips of all teeth. see photo. Then re-mounted to work bench and now only need to un screw locking nuts one full turn for vice to rotate easily ! Am very pleased with Yost vise. I am glad the work bench is well bolted to the wall. I am right handed so I mounted vise on right end of bench so vise jaws hang over the front and right end of bench top to, hold long boards vertically. see photo. Excellent item sold only on line. Go ahead and buy one. Make your day!

Best I have found with this jaw spinning and base rotating design.
This is my third vice. I broke the jaw of both of my others, so I was drawn to this vice because it had the same swivel base and jaw spin design. It claims to be made out of ductile iron, and to have a 7000 lb clamping force (cheaper vices never list clamping force), and it certainly seems a lot stronger and thicker than my previous vises. I have not tried to smash stuff with it yet, but it functions smoothly. It is hard to rotated about its base and is NOT made for constant and easy rotation, since you must hold it level while rotating the vice on its base ( the toothed hold down must completely loosened making the vice unstable while rotating).

                          Under Rated High Quality Vise
After researching heavy duty 5" or larger vises for weeks I decided to purchase the Yost 750 DI. It is big, strong, heavy and very accurately tight through out its motions. I compared it to all the other multi jaw vises available through HD and other stores and the Yost 750 DI weighs 23 lbs more than any other multi jaw vise!!! 23 lbs more!!! And has a Lifetime warranty! I spent some time on Google Images comparing it to other vises and it is much bigger! When I revieved the box I was surprised to see how beefy and heavy duty it was constructed. All of the jaws are precision cut and have sharp serrations on them to hold what you are working on. The vise cycles through it's pases very smoothly. I was concerned that it would not compare to the the $600 plus Wilton and Snap On vises I use at work, but I was wrong!! I would take this vise over any of the 5 high dollar big name vises at my work. The quality is much better! I used four 5/8" grade 8 bolts to mount it. Keep in mind this thing weighs 70 lbs, so be careful and use help while mounting it to the bench. I truly think this is the best vise you can get for $200 or less. This vise really doesn't need any improvements, but if I where to make it a hair better, I would increase the diameter of the sliding handle a few millimeters (it has never bent, but I see similiar sized handles on other vises bend) and I would apply some form of clear coat to all of the machined surfaces to prevent any long term rust from setting in. I mounted this vise to a Semi truck brake drum filled with concrete, I welded casters on the side so that I could move the beast easily around the shop, overall weight is over 350 lbs! On the back side I have a JD2 Notchmaster tubing notcher mounted.

It’s a solid vice. A lot of cheap ones out there. Not the best I’ve ever used but definitely nicer then a lot. Little pricey but I think if I take care of it, will last for long time. I do metal fabrication so it will take a lot of abuse.
