HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO PUT IT IN MY TOILET AND HOW MUCH EACH TIME?
Asked by: WORLDKID
You can use this product as often as every 6 wks. without risk to your pipe. If you live in an area with really cold winters, you don't have to use it Jan through March cause roots aren't growing then. You would begin again in Apr.or May at the first sign of flower shoots starting to come up. Best time to use this is at nite before bed cause you can't flush the toilet or use any house water for 7-8 hers afterward to get maximum results. Open the bottle, poor one cup into a container (don't use that container for anything else!) - flush the toilet. When the water is about half-way down, throw the product in. After the toilet fills up again.. repeat the same process 2 more times. So you'll be putting in the whole bottle.. 3 cups - 1 cup with each flush.. Remember not to flush till the next morning.

Pour product into toilet bowl then flush or pour recommended amount of water per 32oz. container into toilet and then do not use sink, toilet, washer etc. product needs to get to roots and not be flushed away. Best to use overnight.

If I just had the roots in my sewer line cut by snake/auger should I use Root Kill right away or should I wait for a while??
Asked by: Lou
Yes you can use it right away. It would eat up/dissolve any little bits the auger may have missed IF those roots come into the pipe at the bottom. If roots are getting in from the top half of the pipe, this doesn't work well, because the product slowly keeps working for 3-4 weeks with segments still laying on the bottom of the pipe .I had a plumbing co. go into my pipe from the curb with a camera so we could see the condition of my pipe from the inside and exactly where the roots were getting it. I was lucky. I could clearly see there was just 1 problem spot and the hairline crack was on the bottom half. A major plumbing co. told me I can (& do) use this every 6-8 wks. if I like with no risk to the pipe This is my 3rd yr. doing just that, and so far so good. Saving a ton of $$ not having to pay for that auger job. *I flush it down the toilet before bed (1 cup then flush, repeat 2 more times), and don't flush during the night or use any water for 7-8 hers. later. Good luck Lou. Hope it works as well for you as our home.

32 oz. Root Kill (Case of 4) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 87.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Root Kill I have used Root Kill for many years. My town has been designated as a Tree Town and every home has at least one tree on the property. While I love trees I don't care for the damage their roots can do to your property and sewer pipes. I used to have the roto rooter guy out every year until I discovered Root Kill. It does a great preventive job, and now I only have to have my sewer line professionally cleaned out every 4-5 years. When I am going on vacation or away for a long weekend I pour half a bottle into my basement toilet, flush it and go away. That gets the root kill into the sewer line in direct contact with the roots that have grown into my sewer pipe. The product helps to dissolve the roots that grew into the pipe. I've twice asked the drain cleaning guys about the product and both times was told it is a good preventive item.

Had roots get in my drain line last year and had to call a plumber to clear the line. Started putting Root Kill down the toilet as per the directions because I had read so many good reviews. I had put a total of 4 treatments through since last year and 2 days ago I had my drain line backup on us again. Camera inspection showed 3 large growths of very healthy roots. It seems the Root Kill did nothing to help our root issue. While others have had good results... I very much did not. Basically I wasted my money on this stuff and have another treatment of it sitting there that I will be getting rid of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A blessing in disguise I have a 30 yr old pine tree on my porch that's been causing problems with my sewage. I noticed my toilet and bath tub drains would constantly back up. Sometimes my toilet bowl would overflow whenever I took a shower. I didnt want to call any plumbers cuz i knew I would paying alot out of my pocket. So i did some research on products that would help get rid of those nasty roots. I decided to give this a try 3 months ago. Low and behold this stuff works. It took awhile, but noticed the results and my drains are finally flowing free with no backups. I will definitely be using this product at least once a year to keep those roots from coming back...

It was recommended by a friend who said it seems to be working for them so I am giving it a try. I like the ease of application, just pour it into the toilet and flush. I have had problems in the past (before using this) and I am hopeful the root kill will work well for me. I can update later when I have a better chance to say for sure. I can say though it does seem to be working for my friend which is why I am trying it.

I started using this product two years ago to prevent recurrence of root growth in sewer line. Have had no known problem since, and drains are flowing freely continuously. The insignificant price of Zep compared to the $10k, and a destroyed back yard, is a "no-brainer." The old and quite permanent maple tree stands right over the sewer line and next to the garage. Zep is my choice for right now and I am optimistic. Of course, time will tell.

During septic clean out roots were found in septic, contractor advised I use this product to avoid pipe blockage and break down roots to keep septic from damage. Not sure if it worked as I had not reopened the tank but it’s been 18 months and still no blocked pipes. It’s recommended to use product at beginning and end of growing season.

So due to the fact that my plumbing needs were greater than the Zep Root Kill, average is all I can give it. I will use what I have left for the purpose of keeping my line flowing. Hopefully il be able to rate higher based on actual findings.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far, so good Had a problem with roots clogging our sewer drain 15 years ago. Began using Zep root kill annually at that point and have not experienced the problem since. Usually administer the product just before we leave home for a few days to give it plenty of time to work.
