Product Details

The Zareba 10-Mile Low Impedance Solar Fencer draws on the sun's power to charge its internal battery and furnish free electricity to a fence line. It energizes up to 10 miles of single-strand wire to keep pets, livestock and poultry cordoned off from humans and predators, thereby pre-empting any confrontations, skirmishes or kills. Its initial charge takes up to three days, after which it can power your fence line for up to two weeks without sunlight. The unit is equipped with a 6-Volt rechargeable solar battery that's easily accessed through a single-screw compartment. A unique, integrated mount is included to fasten the device to a T-post, round wood post, Y-post, building or flat surface. It's backed by a one-year limited warranty, which includes protection against lightning strikes.
  • Reliable solar-powered 6-Volt battery operates up to 2 weeks without sunlight
  • Establishes a barrier between pets/livestock/poultry and predators or humans

Q:How many hours a day of direct sunlight is needed to power this? How close to the electric fence does it need to be? Is the wire from the charger to the grounding rod hot?
    by|Apr 28, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  This unit has a battery, so the charger does not require sunlight every day in order to function. We recommend the charger be no further than 50 ft away from the start of the fence. The wire that connects the charger to the grounding rod will have voltage running through it.

            An Awesome Charger
This is the second Zareba solar charger I've purchased in 20 years! The one I replaced was very dependable & taught my horses to respect the fence (I've been shocked a few times in the last 20 years & it doesn't feel too good - lol). I had to replace the solar battery once, the only reason I had to replace the charger is because the fence post it was mounted on rotted (I didn't notice till it was too late), & fell during high winds breaking the solar panel; otherwise I'd still be using it! To those new to using a SOLAR charger - it is powered by the SUN people! I don't know why anyone would use a car charger & frankly I don't see how you could even hook it up to one! I just got this new one today but I'm sure it'll be as good as the last one just got to let it charge IN THE SUN for a couple of days. Thankfully the horses don't realize yet the fence is off - ha ha. Hope this helps anyone who's worried about spending the $ - it's worth every penny!

            OK but...
The unit came in a sealed plastic box. The instructions enclosed were for the AC unit and had no instructions for the solar version. The unit itself stated the battery must be charged befor use so I pluged it into my auto charger overnight. Meanwhile I looked online for a manual and found one which stated that using an auto charger will damage the battery. Thanks, guys. We'll see how long the battery lasts.
