Happy to help! The Rust-Oleum Zinsser BIN Shellac-Based Primer is designed for use on subfloors, but not directly on the floor or areas that will be walked on. If you're looking to seal out odor on the subfloor, you can certainly use this product. If it's not for this purpose, we'd advise against use as the product will not hold up and will peel. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

Can this be applied over top of the Zinsser BIN Odor Killer primer?

Answer

Happy to help! Yes, Rust-Oleum Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Based Primer can be used over Zinsser Odor Killing Primer. Please keep in mind, since this is also a primer, it will need to be topcoated with an opaque paint. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Answer

Happy to help Georgia. Zinsser B-I-N Shellac Based Primer is not suitable for application to a floor. The primer we recommend for previously coated concrete garage floors is Rust-Oleum Concrete & Garage Recoat Primer. This primer can then be top coated with any Rust-Oleum Garage Floor Paint. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-1-gal-Concrete-and-Garage-Interior-Exterior-Recoat-Primer-338806/308295564 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

Can i use this on a concrete basement floor?

Asked by Debbie May 24, 2021
1
Answer

Glad you asked, Debbie. We don't recommend using Rust-Oleum Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-based Primer on a floor where it will be exposed to direct foot traffic because it is not a floor-grade coating and will not hold up well in that type of environment. It will wear away quickly. However, it can be used as part of a subfloor. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Happy to help! Rust-Oleum Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Based Primer does not contain self leveling properties. We recommend applying within the recommended temperatures and with the recommended tools to ensure the best finish. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

Happy to help. We would not recommend Zinsser B-I-N Shellac Based Primer be used on a swamp cooler, the best choice would be Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water Based Primer. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Zinsser-Bulls-Eye-1-2-3-1-qt-White-Water-Based-Interior-Exterior-Primer-and-Sealer-2004/100398398 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 6

is there a way to thicken primer. want to toll ceiling

Asked by teri May 3, 2021

Answers

Yes, but I suggest rolling it as is with a half inch cover. Roll the cover only part way in the roll pan so you don't overload the cover. Roll slowly and spread it out as you roll it. It is easily applied this way. To make it thicker, do not have it shaken at Home Depot and pour a couple cups out of the can before you stir it. (You can pour the excess into a metal bucket, such as an old paint can with cat litter to absorb what you are pouring out if the can) When you first open the can, check to see if the solids have settled in the can by sticking a stir stick in to the bottom of the can. It should be more thick at the bottom. Pour a couple cups out and stir. I hope this helps.

Glad to help out. Rust-Oleum Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-based Primer can be used as part of a subfloor, but it should be allowed to completely dry first before installing the vinyl flooring on top. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

best primer for laminate
This is the best primer for any laminate or fake wood job. It adhered without having to sand it first. It dried super fast. Easy to use and the consistency is very thin so it was easy to apply it. It is best used with a foam roller. The only thing was smell. But I made sure I used a mask and it didnt bother like that. I will never buy again another primer. This is the best primer i have used

BIN shellac primer
This primer is a game changer and worth every penny! I had to paint wood ceilings and this blocked stains and tannins from coming through. Needed a couple coats but the outcome was amazing. It drys fast so smell is gone fast. I tried cover stain and the smell was too much and lasted for days. Spend the extra money and it will save you in the end. Currently painting my RV with this and it’s covering amazing and I’m so happy.

Defective product ..don't waste your time
The primer on interior OSB board after 4 days dry time wiped off the board with a sponge. The primer on the ceiling is peeling and cracking , coming off by it's self . What a waste of 5 hours of sanding and prepping only to have to start over with a bigger mess then I started with. How am I going to get this crap off so I can start over. Thanks a lot. Seeing a review for the same problem last month leads me to believe that they don't care to insure they sell good products . They should have pull the bad primer and HD knew that also and yet they still sold it.

Response from Rust-OleumSupportApr 7, 2021
Let's talk about this, PJ! To ensure full durability with Rust-Oleum Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Based Primer, we do recommend applying a topcoat within 3 days of application. If a topcoat cannot be applied within that time, then the surface may need to be lightly sanded or a new coat of primer may need to be applied. If you would like further assistance with your application, please give us a call at (888) 855-1774, so we can try to make things right with you.

Expensive and poor quality
The paint cracked now I have to strip it and prune it snd find another paint to use it. Waste of money and time..

Response from Rust-OleumSupportFeb 9, 2021
Hi Lu, our Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Based Primer is designed for interior use, and spot priming on exterior surfaces, for sealing knots. If the primer was applied to a surface that goes through wide variance in temperatures such as an outdoor wall for instance, it will crack over time. We need to know more about the application and what occurred to get to the bottom of this. Please give us a call at 888-855-1774, we want to try to make things right! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

This primer will cover anything. I used it to prime my kitchen cabinets prior to painting. My cabinets were stained oak with a urethane coating. I cleaned the cabinets doors and lightly sanded with 320 grit sand prior to priming. Using the Zinsser 123 prevents the paint from chipping. It flows well and dries quickly

WORKS!!
I had been wanting a round dinner table and my mom had one that needed some TLC. So i decided to try and give it a face lift. I was so discouraged after sanding everything and using kilz primer just to see some brownish, yellowish coffee looking stains seeping through in certain areas. I researched what i could do to fix this issue and I DID NOT want to resand the whole table again. So luckily i came across a pintrest post recommending this product stating no sanding was required. OMG! this product is amazing!! I did no new prep work to the table before adding this product and it covered those ugly looking stains with just one coat. I will never use any other primer or sealer. THIS STUFF IS AMAZING

the is my go to. I spray cabinets with bin using a gravity feed 1.4 nozzle and it goes on flawlessly, drys very fast and sticks to anything and anything to it. the only cons is it is extremely difficult to get off were you dont want it. it's to messy to brush or roll. hvlp clean up is timely.
