Asked by: Christopher
I've sprayed with an HVLP type sprayer without thinning. Sprayed fine.

Affects on Pets while applying

I have several cats, i can not remove them from the house while we use primer. I plan to do one room or section at a time to reduce fumes. We are looking at putting up a plastic barrier wall to keep the cats away and use a lot of fans. Any other recommendations for pet safety?
Asked by: Dawn
Hi! Bin is a great primer. It's fumes though are quite strong so here's what I do when I use it Do whatever you have to to block any areas that a pet can get into that room at a level from the floor to the top of your head. We all know how cats can jump really high :) When you block a doorway, leave a foot of space opened at the top Put your fan/s in your windows blowing out to suck the fumes outside Open a window on the opposite side of the house like across from this room while closing all other rooms and doors This will allow air to be pulled into the room with the Bin and out the window/s with the fans making it safer for all. Be sure to finish coat over Bin to stop lingering odors from it as soon as possible. Hope this helps! Good luck and pet the kitties for me!

We are using to block dog urine smell on our subfloor. Should the urine spot be completely dry before applying B-I-N?

Asked by: Angie
I have only installed it over a dry surface. I think for best results you want to install it over a clean dry surface. Can't imagine getting good adhesion of the primer when installing it over a wet surface. I would read the instructions on the side of the can

Purchased it on the recommendation of the Home Depot salesperson and it worked great. Had a room with very extensive (many years worth) cigarette smoke odor into the drywall, with a few stains and this product eliminated the odor and hid the black marks well. Wish I had used this in all the rooms as it made this one room look the best of all after painting. Dries very quickly, has a little strong odor during use so have windows wide open for fresh air (the odor disappears in a few hours). Would highly recommend this product, it's better than any other primer I've used, worth the cost. NOTE: This primer is very thin, it will easily drip off your brush or roller. It's also not easy to clean up, plan to trash your roller and brush or you'll be working hard to clean it (not water based). Since it was primer, I used inexpensive brush and roller, still covered well. Again, keep the windows open while using and NO flames or smoking around it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, just be sure to ventilate and/or wear a respirator Excellent product. Worked great covering 1960s wood paneling and urine odor in subfloor. Fumes are potent, so be prepared. While ventilation is good, I would also recommend getting a half-face respirator with OV/P100 cartridges - HD sells them and they are not complicated to use. You're worth it! With regards to applying the product itself, it dries to the touch extremely fast. When I did the first coat on the paneling, I was hoping I could go fast enough to wet-lap the brush and roller work like you would with traditional painting - nada. Not happening. The second time around, I did all the brush work first, which included edging around trim and priming all the grooves in the paneling. When priming the grooves, I feathered the overlap on the panels itself to limit brush marks. After the brush work, I went back and used a regular 3/8" nap roller. No noticeable brush marks, and only a few spots I need to sand to get rid of drips (oops - not a pro here, just a rookie DIYer). The walls look well prepared for paint!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If anyone but a Service Pro technician had told me... If anyone but a Service Pro technician had told me about BIN sealer I would not have believed that this coating could stop odors coming from the drywall. I was surprised how effective a coating of this primer was in eliminating the odor of smoking coming from the drywall. Apparently the previous owner kept clothing in this closet and the odor from smoking transferred from the clothes to the drywall. For seven months we tried different things to eliminate the odor from this closet, only the BIN primer worked. If I were ever to face a similar problem in the future it would be my first choice and I would not have had to frustrate myself for seven months.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the money There are not many products I feel are worth writing a review for, but this is definitely review worthy. I have used multiple primers, including others from zinnser and this is the silver bullet. I was priming mdf and pine and I could have got by with one coat, after 2 coats my wife asked "why do you still need to paint it". What it all comes down to is what is your time worth. I imagine it would take 2 coats of 10$ primer, to get the same effect as 1 coat of this stuff. So if you are doing paneling, you can do 4 coats of cheap stuff, or 2 coats of this (and really you could probably get by with 1 coat and just use a decent 25$ to 30$ paint with primer in it). It is very thin which didn't matter but is probably easy to spray. i didn't feel the smell was as strong as the Zinnser oil based primer, but I mean, if you are painting a closed room with any of this stuff, you will probably be losing some brain cells no matter what. If you are reading these reviews asking yourself if it is worth 4x more than the other products, then yes, it is.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for Priming, Covering & Sealing This product was highly recommended by several reviews and comments on other websites. I recently tried this product on my old kitchen cabinets. The cabinets were 40 years old with original stain and gloss finish. As advertised, the product was applied without any sanding or deglossing of the old finish. The product went on smoothly with foam rollers, covered very well, dried quickly, and has produced a beautiful surface for painting the top coat. The product also sands well and covers everything, including spackling, nail heads, torn paper, wood knots, and more. I also used it on my walls to hide blemishes. There is an odor from the shellac base, so you may want to ventilate the area when painting. I am very happy with B-I-N and will happily purchase it again for my next home interior painting project.

Used this product for excellent coverage and hiding of a ceiling stain from a roof leak. The stain included tannins from rotting plywood and 2x4s, and was 3-feet across with a dark brown edge. One coat of the BIN Primer hid the stains and provided an excellent base to apply new latex paint. Note that this product is quite watery and is much thinner in consistency than other Zinzer primers, so you'll need drop cloths to protect carpets, furniture, etc

The store manager was in the paint aisle while my wife was looking for something to cover pine bead board that is on the ceiling of one of our rooms. She had painted three coats of Behr interior on them but the knots and the dark grain were bleeding through the paint, making it look yellowed instead of white. The manager recommended this and it worked great. It's been a few months and nothing is changing color.

This is a small room and when painted in the past the cigarette residue would ultimately leech out through the paint. Hopefully this sealer will work and I will remember to provide an update in a few months.
