This mildew proof paint works but it's NOT cheap....
Much as I hate to admit it this Zinsser mildew proof paint is about as good as you will get especially for high humidity rooms such as bathrooms, showers, and basements. You do have to purchase huge amounts of this type paint and pricing is what I was overly concerned with but after using my completed bathroom (see all pictures for proof) you can clearly see that the paint has held up perfectly with neither blistering nor mold/mildew rearing it's ugly head. If you want a quality mildew proof paint this is the one to get!

TERRIBLE! POOR ADHESION OVER EXISTING PAINT! FIND ANOTHER PRODUCT!
I'm not a professional painter, and I'm not an endorser of any paint manufacturer, product or anything like that. I'm an average Joe that needs to paint a relatively small bathroom ceiling where I recently added LED ceiling lights and my wife now would like the ceiling color changed as well. I chose this paint since it says that it is great for mold/mildew areas such as bathrooms, and I wanted to use what appeared to be a great product for the job (I don't want to be doing this again anytime soon). To note, I don't have prior history of mold or mildew in this bathroom.
The existing ceiling paint (Glidden satin, approx 3 years old) held up very well. I began by reading the instructions and the label says the paint can be applied over existing painted surfaces as long as it is cleaned and sound. This paint does not need primer. I cleaned the entire ceiling with a household cleaner to remove any grime, then I sanded it lightly using a piece of sandpaper over a drywall sanding block. I wiped the ceiling down using a damp cloth & water to take off the dust and came back to paint a couple days later.
I began painting by cutting in the ceiling at the walls and noticed this paint was not adhering to the existing finish very well. The problem occurs when I overlap some strokes - the brush pulls away areas the first strokes just put down. I know I shouldn't "over tool" the paint when applying by brush, but this is ridiculous. I got very frustrated, so I decided to stop and read the instructions again, check the internet, and clean the ceiling once more. Well, it still occurred and I'm beyond my limits of dealing with it. I didn't get to use the roller yet, but I'm worried what condition the ceiling will be left in after those overlapping movements.
I've never experienced such terrible performance, and I've used a lot of different brands over the years. In my opinion, this is a very tricky paint to use over a sound existing finish. I'll be getting another brand - something that I've used before and know works well.

We appreciate the feedback! While a primer isn't absolutely necessary with Rust-Oleum Zinsser Perma-White Primer, you'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes in most projects. Primers make colors pop, help topcoats go on more efficiently and prepare surfaces like bare wood, metal, and rust before painting. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5

Zinsser Perma-White is not as good as it used to be. The paint was thin and didn’t provide one-coat coverage, very disappointing! I will not buy it again.

Something is amiss here, Ariel! It sounds like the contents may have settled in the can, as this would cause the contents to be much less viscous. If this occurs, scraping the sides and bottom of the can prior to mixing will ensure the proper consistency and performance. Please give us a call at 888-855-1774, we want to get to the bottom of this and make things right! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2

Good coverage. Tolerable odor. Easy to clean finished surface. Minor downside I’d due to semi-gloss finish shows-off ceiling imperfections, which required two coats. Good product. Check again in three years.

DRIPPY!!!!!!! THIN!!!!!! 3 OR MORE COATS NEEDED!!!!!!!! SO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!
Response from Rust-OleumSupportMar 5, 2021
That is very unusual to hear, Rene! Our Zinsser Perma-White Mold & Mildew-Proof Interior Paint does require two coats for proper performance as well as mold & mildew-proof resistance, however, three or more coats should not be necessary for proper hide and coverage. Does not stick to well existing paint
The paint does not adhere well to existing paint on wall and when overlapping the edges, it pulls the paint off.

Hmm, something's amiss here. The Rust-Oleum Zinsser Perma-White Mold & Mildew-Proof Paint should be applied to a surface that's clean, dry, and sound. A few things to keep in mind that will help with your application. You're only as strong as your first coat. This means that if your first coat of paint is flaking/peeling, we would recommend sanding. Additionally, the product should be applied to a surface that's been cleaned properly. TSP should not be used because it can leave a film behind that will cause an issue with the adhesion of the product. The product also will take 7-10 days to fully bond to the surface. This means that if you were to try to scratch at it too early, it will not be bonded properly. We hope this helps! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1
