Using this 18 inch fan to move the hot air from my garage through the roof with modifications. Air vent is 24 inches with a 12 inch collar. Makes a lot of noise but works good. Now I will see how long it lasts using it for short usage to remove car exhaust or deep fryer smells.

This 1/2 hp motor is pretty heavy. It is attached to the wire fan shroud and supported only on the bottom by one 10" brace also attached to the shroud. It must be installed in a very stiff housing. However, this does not prevent the motor itself from vibrating badly, shaking the shroud and describing a 1" vibration arc at the back. After adding a metal strapping "V" support to the bottom of the fan and screwing this into the wall, the vibrations were reduced to an acceptable level.

Great fan bought it to go in my barn
Bought this fan to go in my barn -- 35 x 70 x 26 feet tall -- 3 big doors and a few windows . it moves a lot of air -- yes you can tell when it is on just from the air movement -- the only problem is that is not the only reason you can tell when it is on --- it is really loud -- you can hear it 250 feed away from the barn -- it is noisy very noisy -- it a combination of the motor speed and the blade type -- a slower motor and bigger blades would really quite it down -- but slower motors and big blades cost more -- so there you go -- still running 4 years later still noisy

Too much vibration
I have two of these fans securely mounted in the large attic storage area over my workshop. They are 2x4 double framed mounted with the frame bolted and glued in place. Both fans are vibrating so badly that I feel they will tear apart their mounting frame or destroy the fan blade shaft bearings. Getting them lifted and put in place was not easy. I can only guess that the fan blades are terribly out of balance so I guess my next move is to dismantle the fan and see if I can balance the fan blades before they set themselves on fire.
