I love these shelves because they have so many great uses. You can put them anywhere. You can line them up in a row to create one long shelf or stagger or layer them. My mom uses a long one in one of her smaller guest bathrooms above the vanity and below the mirror for extra storage and display use. They're great in a kids room as a book display. You kids might be more likely to grab a book to read if they can actually see it's nice cover! They make a nice going out the door area shelf where keys can be place. You could add hooks to the bottom or combined it with another piece of painted to match to make a coat hanging shelf area at your front door. Or they are just great for displaying pictures or other items.

This shelf is a perfect size and very easy to install. The only thing I would change are the screw covers....they are just a small paper dot....a wood plug would have been better.

I thought this "floating" picture ledge from Lewis Hyman would be the perfect addition in my living room, as I have several collections of silver and books I wanted to put on display. And though it meets the intended purpose, I'm afraid there are several issues I have with both the quality of construction and the installation. Out of the box, the black shelving looked great-- until I noticed a large spot of damage to the right front corner of the lip (see photo). This may have been result of either shipping or manufacture, I don't know. But it is something I will have to touch up, now that the shelf is installed. And it's something I would not expect for the shelf's price. Secondly, I don't care for the twist-type drywall anchors that are supplied with the shelf-- they are the large, twist, screw-shaped type that require drilling a rather large hole in your wall in order to successfully twist them in, and as such have an immediate tendency to become loose and not secure the shelf snugly to the wall-- I ended up using more traditional push-in anchors that required a much smaller hole and provided a more secure anchoring. The shelf's finish is even and smooth, but is very thin-- it nicks easily and exposes the light-colored MDF-- once again, more touch-up will be required. After installing the shelf, I searched for what I thought would be small black plugs to insert in the recessed screw holes, to hide the screws. What the manufacturer provided, however, was a tiny strip of adhesive-backed black paper dots. Really? Paper dots? From across the living room, the shelf looks fine. But up close-- not so much. I was expecting a much higher end product.

This shelf snapped right into two, length-wise, along the ledge part--it showed it was attached using little staples. Scary to think if frames were placed on it (like I had planned on doing) and put behind our couch! Home Depot was great and returned it, no problem. It's a shame because they do look nice.

The shelf itself is made of cheap materials. It came with several chips in it, particularly the corners. I took a black marker and colored the spots. Hanging on the wall, no one will notice. Had this been an in store purchase, I would have returned them for new ones. Having to ship them back and wait, it wasn't worth it. I still like the shelf for the price, but it is nowhere near the quality or price of Pottery Barn.

I love this shelf! I got two, and they look perfect! ONLY problem is the stickers provided to cover up the drill holes are too thin and don't cover much up. But that's hardly a problem. These shelves are great!!
