Answer This Question

HI, The SharkBite Full-Size Stainless Steel PEX Clamp Ring will work with PEX - A as long as the PEX - A meets the ASTM F2098 requirement. You will find this information printed on the PEX pipe. If it's SharkBite PEX-A then the stainless steel rings will work. If you have any more questions do not hesitate to contact us. (Kind regards,)

My package was missing the calibration gauge. what is the correct jaw opening size? I have feeler gauges, if I know how wide the jaws should be apart at maximum close, I can calibrate it. or where can I get the calibration gauge? I'm not asking about the crimp style go no go gauge. this is to calibrate the pinch tool itself.

    Answer This Question

I am the original poster. I contacted RWC customer support as recommended and received the CRIMP go/no go gauge. I've called and left a message requesting the CALIBRATION go/ no go gauge but haven't heard back. RWC's explanation makes no sense as the CALIBRATION go/no go gauge is to set the jaw opening of the clamp ring tool to a specific size so that the clamps hold. This thing got out of calibration after about a dozen clamps and now they aren't holding.

Hello, The SharkBite Stainless Steel PEX Clamp Ring Tool does not have a set distance on how far the jaws should be apart like our Crimp Ring Tool. When calibrating the Clamp Ring Tool it requires the Go/No Go Gauge. If you would contact tech support at 877-700-4242 we can help you in acquiring a Go/No Go Gauge. Kind regards,

            Answer This Question

Both the stainless steel clamps and tool or the copper crimp rings and tool are appropriate for installing barb fittings into PEX pipe. The only difference is the size of the tool and how much space you have to work within. You could also use a SharkBite push to connect fitting. Just remember SharkBite Universal fittings are suitable for burial in most applications; however care is required when using fittings in applications that require burial to ensure the correct installation practices are used and due care is given to any environmental factors that may have a detrimental effect on the life expectancy of the fittings and pipe. The installation of SharkBite Universal fittings in applications that will require the burial of the fitting must comply with all local plumbing code requirements. SharkBite Universal fittings and SharkBite PEX are not suitable for use in areas where the soil is or may become contaminated* including the soil used for back filling. All SharkBite Universal fittings with brass bodies must have an impervious barrier between the fitting and the surrounding soil. Self-fusing, formaldehyde and chloride-free, fully cured silicone tape with a minimum thickness of 0.020″ should be used for this purpose. The soil used for back filling must be free of rocks, debris or any sharp objects that may cause damage to the fitting or pipe through impact or abrasion. If you have further questions, please contact Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

I believe either type would work... the crimping one works great in tight places where the big wrench won’t fit.

                    Answer This Question

No. SharkBite barb fittings, copper crimp rings and tool, and stainless steel clamps and tool are only to be used on PEX pipe. You can use SharkBite push to connect fittings to connect PEX, CPVC or copper. If you have further questions, please contact Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

NO you can't the cpvc pipe is not flexible enough to handle the clamp. I would use a shark bite conector

Where do I find this tool? It says they have several in stock in-store, and when I show up, they are actually the Apollo Clamp tool.

Home Depot used to carry Sharkbite rings and tools while Lowe's carried Apollo. Both Sharkbite and Apollo used to be made in the USA but Apollo moved production to China in the race for the bottom. Now Home Depot has started to carry the Apollo stuff and appears to be phasing out the good Sharkbite tools and Oetiker clamps rings. If you want the good tools that are still made in the USA, by Oetiker you will have to go to the Sharkbite or Oetiker websites, or Amazon to find them. The three handled crimp tool and the compact version with the side crimper are invaluable for tight spaces, like in automotive work or crawl spaces under the house.

If you go to www.sharkbite.com, search for the tool and then do store locator, it will tell you the closest location to purchase it. You can also order from Home Depot.com. If you have further questions, please contact Customer Service M-F, 8am-5pm at (877) 700-4242.

                            Great tool, but...
Bought this tool and it works well. After multiple repairs/repipes, the ratchet pin fell out and I can't find replacement parts. Held calibration well. I don't like tools that I depend on but can't be repaired on site. It wastes valuable time/money to run and replace tools in the middle of a job.

Model # Shown for SharkBite, SKU is for Apollo
I ordered the ORANGE SharkBite tool as pictured. I received a YELLOW Apollo tool, not pictured, but the SKU matches with the SKU description of the yellow tool...and the orange tool. When Home Depot very clearly shows a SharkBite tool, in an orange color with SharkBite showing on the tool, and model number matching SharkBite, then sends you an Apollo, they are purposefully substituting. Home Depot sells the yellow Apollo, but with the same SKU though a different model number.
