      Answer This Question

A:  60921. This isn't noted in the product over view or specifications where you might expect to see the model number. If you look closely at the images, 60921 is on the black label wrapping the unit.

Q:Are these appropriate for lead based paint and/or asbestos work? They seem to have a P100 particulate filter. If they are not, what cartridge would I use? I have a 6000 series mask that I love to work with and would like to use with that.

A:  Store them in a sealed (zip lock type) plastic bag or they will continue to absorb things out of the air. This will make them last longer.

Q:Will these filters protect against the organic vapors, including styrene, produced by 3D printing of ABS plastic filament? I doubt that the particle filter will filter out the nanoparticles released during 3D printing plastic.

Q:How long can a cartridge be used for/when do you know a cartridge needs to be replaced?

              Answer This Question

A:  Length of use will be based on too many variables to be accurate. Are you in a dusty environment? Working around paints and sticky aerosols? This will shorten their life span. The cartridge needs replacing when you can no longer breath through it! When you put it on for the first time, and the first time each day after, put both palms over the intake grills. Breath in and feel the mask compress against your face. If you remove your hands and inhale, and the mask again compresses, replace them, you've gone WAY too long with those cartridges! Breathing normally, if you start to feel dizzy (or in my case, panic-y), replace them, you've gone to their limit. After wearing them a few times, you'll begin to feel when it takes more effort to breath (like you're on your fourth flight of stairs up), or you feel air sneaking around the edges of the mask (I notice it next to my nose) when you inhale and the mask is sitting properly on your face. THAT is the time to actually replace them!

A:  MasterDaniel904's answer is correct for the dust catching feature of this type of cartridge. For the organic vapor (solvents etc.) feature, you should not be able to smell anything inside the mask. If you do, then either the chemical agent in the cartridge is used up and the cartridge is no longer protecting you, or you don't have the right cartridge for the chemical you are working with.

A:  There a many variables at play for giving a specific time/day to change a cartridge. It will depend on hours of use, particles in the air, etc. We go with the 3-D's....dirty, damaged, or difficult to breathe through. Thanks for asking!

A:  This product is designed for use with certain non-harmful sprays and vapors from pesticides, stains, varnishes, coatings, sealants and odor reduction. As used in this sense "organic" refers to the branch of chemistry dealing with the unique properties of compounds containing carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur only.

A:  If you are using it to catch dust, you can reuse it until it clogs up and gets hard to pull air through. If you are using it for chemical protection, don't count on more than a few days after you open the wrapper because it will continue grabbing molecules while it is lying around. If you start smelling the chemical when you inhale through your respirator, you need to get a fresh filter.
