A:  Animal hair is only used in the most expensive brushes. All basic brushes that are home use or multi pack brushes are made from nylon hairs.

A:  These brushes are not actually designed for paints and stains, more for glues, adhesives and such. You can use them for paints and stains, but the performance will not be great. They will not hold much material, are not very durable and will shed some bristles when used for those applications. Thanks,

A:  Technically this brush will work but it is not recommended because it will lose a lot of bristles and will leave a lot of brush marks. These brushes are really only recommended for glues and adhesives. A better choice for a 4in brush would be: http://www.homedepot.com/p/4-in-Flat-Polyester-Oil-Brush-HD-1873-0400/205884465 which is designed for oil and solvent based liquids and semi-smooth to semi-rough surfaces like concrete. Thanks,

A:  Chip brushes (while made of natural bristle) are not recommended for use with any paint, oil based or otherwise. They do not hold much product, leave a lot of brush marks and will drop bristles in the finish. Chip brushes are ideal for clean up work, solvents, adhesives, paint removers and other non-finish applications, but not for painting.

A:  I've used chip brushes with oil primer, just so I didn't have to worry about clean up. (I then painted over with latex paint, with a really good brush.) You can probably get one good use out of them. I wouldn't recommend them for a fine finished look, but if you don't mind a little "rougher" surface, they'll be fine.

A:  Chip brushes as the name implies are used to brush oily, metal chips from a mill or lathe to clear the work piece for measuring. The brushes are made with coarse animal bristles that are stiff and oil resistant. Because they are cheap and solvent proof, many home owners use them with oil based paint, and throw them away. Bristle fallout and rough finish are the brushes short comings.

Best thing to do is call the store you want to purchase them from and see if they have the amount you are looking for. If not maybe they can get some from other stores to meet your needs.
