A:  I believe it is galvanized. I installed it outside as a garden fence over a year ago and there is no sign of rust.

A:  Not totally sure about galvanized but it doesn't rust at all. It will lose it's shininess when exposed to the weather but it doesn't rust so I suspect it is galvanized. The wire isn't large enough for me to accurately determine if it is galvanized when I am looking for the semi-rough appearance from being galvanized. Mine has been in the elements for over a year and no rust at all. Even Home Depot stores this material outside (garden department) in some stores.

A:  Yes. Half inch will keep out most animals. And 19 gauge is strong enough, but it will let in bees, possibly small mice and very thin snakes. It should protect against smaller predators like dogs, raccoons and coyotes, and it will keep out deer, but it will NOT protect against larger predators like bear. A bear can rip open a car door.

A:  Yes .. If secured correctly and leave at least 15inches across the ground to keep from digging under (make a L shape) it will keep out all that could harm the Kitty.

A:  Hello Bonita, This product is very sturdy as long as you have a good frame to support it. I would think that it would hold up to mild / moderate hail conditions. Keep in mind that if the hail is large enough it will break through just about anything.

But if you do a good job (a strong frame and tacking it down well every few inches) and the hail is not biblical, it will hold up. Note, if you use this as a wall AND a roof and the plants need to be pollinated, do not go less than 1/2" size holes or bees cannot get in to pollinate the plants.

But 2 inches deep is not deep enough. You should go at least 12 inches below the surface as a "fence" under ground. Even better than an under ground fence is an underground flooring, laying it out like a flooring under about 2" of soil. This way, no matter how dig any animal digs, it can't come up through the fenced floor.

We have had zero problems with wildlife since putting it around each bush. I guess it all depends on what type of garden you are looking to use it for.

Garden use can mean keeping out gophers and others animals that come up from under ground, or it can mean keeping out rabbits, or deer, or people. This might help: Hardware cloth is generally stronger than hexagon shaped chicken wire and some find it easier to handle. Hardware cloth usually lasts longer than hexagon chicken wire. The smaller the number of the gauge, the thicker the wire is. Hardware cloth may be rust resistant, but it still can rust. If that is an issue for you, pvc coated wire is best. Flexible plastic "deer fencing" with holes smaller than 3 inches can accidently trap and kill birds and other small animals. Please don't flexible plastic deer fencing if you don't have to. Use ridged metal fencing like hardware cloth to minimize harm to animals.

If you want to keep deer out, you need 8' tall or better. If you want to protect chickens or rabbits, you need 1/4 or 1/2 " 19 gauge hardware cloth, like this material. If you are using it to protect chickens and rabbits, remember, rats and other burrowers can burrow under from 20 or more feet out. A young rat can get through 1/2" wire, then proceed to live and reproduce inside the structure once it is too large to leave through 1/2". Just going around the bottom edges won't do it, except for foxes and raccoons. You'll need to put this down on the ground under the entire structure, use concrete blocks to secure it, then build your coop or run on top of the blocks if you want to keep out rats and snakes. Poultry wire is good for separating chickens within an enclosure, but not for keeping predators out. That makes the job a bit expensive, but well worth the cost in protecting your livestock.
