Q:Can you mount this vertically, on the side of a shed wall, instead of the roof? Is it ok if it gets rained on this way?

A: I installed one vertically, but because the solar panel is made to be installed on a incline (I.e. roofline) I had to slightly modify the solar panel mounting to at least mirror the angle of a roof. Did not take much, flat stock piece of metal (aluminum is easy to work with and holds up to the weather), a drill and two longer screws or bolts (depending on how you secure the metal stock. Worked great.
Not sure about you rain question, I guess that will be determined in a few months from now.

A: No, this cannot be mounted vertically.
Our vents are made to be mounted on the roof deck only

A: Indeed, the biggest issue with vertical is getting the solar panel angle perfect to get maximum sunlight directly on the panel, it’s somewhat critical of how it’s angled, I had to angle the panel or it did not run very fast..

Answer This Question
A: I don't see why it couldn't, mine is mounted on a green house on polyethylene panels. Make sure you use the right type of attachment so it does not create a leak.

A: Maybe, but just like any other vent on a metal roof - you will have to do a good job of sealing it.

A: no the fan only works if the solar panel faces direct sunlight... toward the sun and not at an angle.
by|Jul 15, 2020
A: The fan blade is set to pull the air out of the building.
by|Mar 31, 2021
A: This is a roof mounted exhaust fan, so it would pull the air from under it

Q:Can this be connected to a thermostat that will control will it turns on and then back off?

Answer This Question
A: You probably could if the thermostat acts as a switch between the solar panel and the fan's electric motor. Mine is always on and only the weather controls when it's on or off: sunny=on, cloudy or night=off.
by|Jun 1, 2020
A: I don’t think it can be set up that way. I have 4 and the sun runs my just fine.
by|Jun 2, 2020
A: It’s not designed to be used with a thermostat, it’s has simple two wires that run from solar panel to fan motor, but if you are savoy, one could extend/cut one of the wires and install a on and off switch that’s controlled by a thermostat... all I did was extend wires so solar panel could be mounted separately from fan, no doubt eliminating any warranty

Q:Does the panel have to face South? will it work on a Northern faced slope?

Answer This Question
A: The panel needs to have a southern exposure. Due north will not generate enough electricity to power the motor.
by|Apr 27, 2020
A: Mine faces more north and works just fine.

Q:Can I use this to draw stagnant air out of the basement? I do not use my fireplace, thinking about attaching one of these to top of chimney, run a duct from fireplace , thru floor to basement. Would this provide enough pull to bring air up from the basement? I have no windows or ventilation down there and it gets kinda stagnant in summer time. 24 feet from chimney to basement, 8 inch triple wall flue. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Answer This Question
A: as long as there is air getting in it should, in theory, work. These fans only work when there is bright direct sunlight onto the panel.
by|Oct 7, 2019
A: I doubt that it would have enough pull. The airflow is weak even in bright sunlight. I use it to aerate my backyard shed, it's mounted on the roof and works somewhat ok. It has no rechargeable battery, so on cloudy days and at night it does nothing.
