A: It has nothing to do with temp and everything to do with the sun. It must be bright and directly over the panel to generate enough amperage to run the fan.

A: This unit has no battery. It only comes on when sunlight hits the solar panels. Clouds blocking the sun will usually turn it off.

A: I cannot give you a specific answer. The fan is the square type commonly used electronics. I have 2 of these installed in Texas where is you can imagine it gets warm. I typically get about 3-5 years of service before I have to replace the fan. The fan operates on 12 Volts D.C. To my knowledge, there is no temperature overload switch. Generally, these type of fans can handle the high temperatures associated with an attic.
I am very satisfied with this product, I would buy it again.

A: No switch. Whenever there is enough solar energy to power the fan, it operates. There is no energy storage (i.e. battery), so as long as there is ample sunlight, you will see it run.

A: There is no switch. When the sun is over the panel the motor will switch itself on. The close the sun is to be directly overhead to the panel, the more power is produced and the quicker the fan motor runs.

A: you can always add a wiring loop to it to switch to different uses when you dont want the fan like a LED over a dark spot like your closet even during daytime. or charging a battery for overnight security light placed elsewhere. whatever.. Ask any of your friends who knows electricity.
Those solar guys need to think more about modular functions with their solar products to give them more multi-flexible purposes .
You don't need to vent the attic at all times but it helps to do that whenever it is sunny and you dont feel chiilly indoors.. The last thing you need is to have the fan running on a sunless foggy chillly day! right ?

A: You do not want to shut off attic ventilation in the winter. During the winter homes are kept closed up and the humidity generated by cooking, showering etc. builds up in the attic and will condense on the underside of the roof deck. This leads to rotting and/or mold growth. Attics need to breath all year round.

A: it runs only if the sun is shining and cuts off when it is cloudy or dark. there is no switch on it and no battery to store energy when it isn't sunny.

A: Yes, the vent area on the stack is wider and taller than the fan and presumably would allow air to flow easily around it. The solar panel is mounted on top and would not affect air flow. One thing to note: the fan does not have a thermostat so it operates whenever it gets enough sunlight -- summer or winter!

A: Yes. Due to natural convection (heat rises) the vent will allow heat to escape. It will however be slightly less efficient than a passive vent with no fan due to the non working fan partially obstructing the vent area.
