Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. The DAP PATCH-N-PAINT is: ideal for filling holes, cracks, dents and defects on: drywall, plaster, brick, stucco and wood. Per package label and product literature: 1. Surface must be free of grease, oil and other foreign matter. 2. Stir thoroughly before use. (When using the 2.8 oz tube, remove top, grip tube bottom & twist up a very small amount (about 1/16”) of filler. Either apply directly to surface or using built-in spackling knife, scrape off spackling from top of tube & apply to wall) 3. Using a clean putty knife, press spackling into hole or crack. 4. Draw blade firmly across the surface to remove excess material in one strike. 5. For a smoother finish, dip putty knife into water and lightly smooth spackling. 6. One application is usually sufficient for small repairs. For repairs deeper than 1/8”, apply two or more layers allowing spackling to dry between applications. 7. May be painted within minutes with a latex paint. Please follow paint manufacturer’s instructions for application. 8. If sanding is desired, or if an oil-based paint is to be used, allow to dry thoroughly (approximately 24 hours). A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. PATCH-N-PAINT is specifically formulated as a low moisture/low density spackling compound for faster dry time/paint time. This formula will appear lighter and drier than a traditional spackling compound. DAP PATCH-N-PAINT Lightweight Spackling is designed and marketed for minor cosmetic/surface repairs, such as dents/dings in wallboard, it is not designed or recommended for use on ceramic tile or as a substitute for traditional ceramic tile grout (joint filling between tiles). A:  I wouldn't reccomend this product for that use. You need to either fill with grout or use a stronger product like bondo.

Q:Can this product be used to repair hair line cracks on ceiling with out tape?

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. As a general rule, if the crack/defect is "static" (not moving), a stand-alone application of a spackling compound, such as DAP PATCH-N-PAINT would be appropriate. If there is a potential for further movement (unstable crack), the use of a reinforcing tape (mesh) would likely be required. Should you have additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP Technical Customer Service at 888-327-8477.

A:  I honestly have no clue and don't plan to find out. The patch and paint was used inside the house and in order to find out we would have to get it wet indoors.

A:  Yes, you can you will need a very light skim about 2 times the size of the patch to help feather it out get a nice metal drywall knife and this will simplify the job

A:  Yes and sanding is pretty much a requirement unless you can spackle really good edges which you can on small holes.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP PATCH-N-PAINT is specifically designed for repairing minor cracks, dents, dings, holes, and similar minor cosmetic defects. The texture/consistency of this product does not lend itself well to larger format spreading and/or taping and bedding work. For the application as described, the use of a more traditional joint compound or spacking compound would be recommended. At your convenience, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information from you regarding your project and to suggest a product that best aligns with your needs.

Q:I have a panel of hooks with two drywall anchors that fell off the wall leaving two holes in the drywall each the size of my pinkie fingertip? Is this the correct product to fill them? How far from the original holes do the new drywall anchors have to be (once the original holes are filled)? Is there another product you think is better for this purpose?

A:  I had a similar problem and found a combination of this and Gorilla Glue worked the best. There needed to be some adhesion to keep it all together. It has been months and still holding.

A:  I had a large hole and first put snapped chopsticks in to give it something to build on. Can you plug it first with the DAP and dowel end? That would give it strength.

A:  Not the best but surely will do the job. A quick drying plaster repair such as Durabond 45 will get results fast.

A:  Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Patch-N-Paint is designed for minor cosmetic/surface repairs, such as dents/dings in wallboard. We do not recommend this product for use as an anchoring point (to hold a fastener). As a general rule, it is recommended that any new fasteners be installed into a part of the wall surface that is fully intact (usually 2"+ away from the damaged/repaired area). Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.

A:  Yes. With larger holes it may take a couple applications because fresh spackle will retreat a little in the hole when drying. Just be patient and allow drying.
