A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. Based on your description of the surface material's poor/unstable condition, we would not recommend the application/use of this, or any other repair compound. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
A: coat golf tees with wood glue and drive the in the hole and break them off allow glue to dry and its fixed
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Plastic Wood-X All-Purpose Wood Filler is specifically designed and recommended for use as a wood repair filler on minor/cosmetic repairs. DAP does not recommend this product or other similar wood filler products we offer for large or deep wood rot repair applications. For these type of more extensive/complex repairs, the use of two component wood repair epoxies and their accessory primers would be recommended. Should you have any questions or wish to discuss this in more detail, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
A: Without seeing how much damage you have on the bottom of the door, I could not even guess. I used it more like a filler on plywood, much like a spackling compound, not as a filler of a large area.
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Plastic Wood-X All-Purpose Wood Filler. As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Most repairs require just one fill. Larger and deeper holes may require more than one application. For larger and deeper holes, apply thin layers to build up thick sections. Allow wood filler to dry before applying next layer. Allow to dry thoroughly before sanding: approximately 2 to 6 hours for shallow fills up to 1/8” and 36 hours for deeper fills 1/4” and over. Sand with medium sandpaper. May be painted with latex-based paint immediately after sanding, or after 12 hours if using an oil-based paint. Exterior applications and applications subject to water exposure must be sealed with a waterproof coating." Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
A: I painted over it with exterior house paint two years ago. Still looks good.
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Plastic Wood-X. Application to pressure treated wood is possible, however, the wood must be clean, dry, and well-seasoned. Please note that proper seasoning (drying) of pressure treated wood can take several months. Of additional note, DAP Plastic Wood-X is not designed or recommended for use as a "stand alone" product for exterior and/or moisture exposed applications. As indicated on the product instructions for use: "FINISHING: Exterior applications must be coated with latex or oil-based paint or solid color stain." Likewise, other similar waterproof coatings such as exterior rated varnishes and polyurethanes are also considered appropriate. Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
A: Yes
A: If you have access to a foodsaver or vacuum bag device try placing the container in one and vacuum out the air.
A: ...Also, if you wrap the container in plastic wrap, and put it inside an old metal can, it should help prevent drying out. Plastic does "breathe" over time whereas metal will not let in any air. The extra plastic wrap is extra 'insurance'.
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Plastic Wood-X All-Purpose Latex Wood Filler. As indicated on the product label and supporting product literature: "Reseal tightly with lid after each use. Store in a cool, dry place away from extreme heat or cold”. Of note, even a small breach/air gap between the packaging components (lid and cup) will allow the liquid in the formula to evaporate/escape, resulting in drying of the remaining portion of the filler. This can also occur if the product is stored in poor conditions, such as elevated temperatures and as the product ages (reaches its shelf life). If the product should thicken or appears excessively dry, providing that the material is still pliable, a small volume of water may be added to the wood filler until a smooth/even texture/consistency is achieved. If that procedure is not effective, it typically indicates that the product is no longer viable/usable. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
A: If you put the top on tight and store it in a climate control area, it will never dry out. I have a five year old tub, of this stuff, I used today and it's still good.
A: Plastic wrap over the top, then lid, then put entire tub inside a thick ziplock bag and squeeze out as much air as you can before sealing.
A: After using what is needed, I've found the life of the remains can be extended by closing the lid tightly and storing the container upside down after trying to shake or squeeze the contents down onto the lid.
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry on DAP Plastic Wood-X. For "synthetic shellac" and other non-water-based stains/coatings, the oil-based application guidance should be followed. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
A: you could use this, but you would be better off with a good spackle as it has a more similar chemical composition to plaster than plastic wood and as such will hold better and smoother
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Plastic Wood-X All-Purpose Wood Filler is intended for use on natural wood, it is not recommend for use on wallboard/plaster. At your convenience, please contact DAP's Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477 so that we can obtain some additional information regarding your project and to provide you with a recommendation for a more appropriate product.
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. We would not recommend the use of DAP Plastic Wood-X under contact cement, as the solvents contained in most contact cements can soften/damage these types of fillers. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
A: I did not use particle board or MDF but I did use it for sealing the holes in a pinewood derby car and it worked fantastic. It doesn’t dry like it is wood itself but it does the job of covering the hole and after sanding you couldn’t even tell the difference. After painting it, it was hard and felt like no wood was removed.
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Plastic Wood-X can be used on most wood and wood-based products. Given that MDF, particleboard and similar engineered wood products can often times be unstable (friable, prone to flake/crumble), a test application to verify acceptable adhesion/performance would be recommended. Should you have any additional questions or require further assistance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
A: I'm a home builder & remodeler, have been in construction for 34 years now. I'm guessing you're patching some bad areas of your plywood subfloor. If it's rotten, you need to replace the subfloor where needed rather than patch it, but if it's just small areas where there may be damage rather than rot, and you're not using much of this, it will patch the plywood. If you use ANY wood filler over 1/8" thick, it's going to crack up into pieces. Use wood fillers in a skimcoat manner like you would drywall joint compund or to fill small cracks like you would caulk or to fill small holes like you would painters putty, and that's all. If you're trying to level the floor, staple down 30# felt first very well & then use a self-leveling latex floor float product to level it, then glue down your vinyl tiles.
A: Thank you for posting your inquiry. DAP Plastic Wood-X All-Purpose latex Wood Filler can be used for minor cosmetic repairs on natural wood. Areas that may be subject to abrasion/wear and or moisture must be protected with a surface coating, such as a high-quality polyurethane, that is "traffic rated" for flooring applications or floor covering goods. As with any hard setting wood repair filler, it should not be applied to joints, seams, or other areas prone to movement. For areas/applications where joint movement may occur, the use of DAP Flexible Floor Patch and Leveler would typically be recommended. Should you have any additional questions or require additional application guidance, please feel free to contact DAP’s Technical Customer Service Department at 888-327-8477.
