Q:Could this product be used as the finished flooring in a hobby woodworking shop on a concrete slab?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello Workshopfloor, Our panels are often installed and used as the finished floors in workshops. When the system will be used as a finished floor, the panels must be sealed. Any surface treatments such as paints, stains, varnishes, and polyurethanes must be tested first for compatibility. To apply, brush or roll on 1 coat of a high quality primer prior to painting, or 2-3 coats of polyurethane or varnish to the surface of DRICORE panels. Ventilate well during this process. The most popular application over our panels is a polyurethane. If you want to achieve a smooth finish on the new panels, you can do so by sanding them before you seal them. To properly sand the panels, you would first require an 80 grit to get through the “screen” texture of our OSB, then proceed with a 120 grit to reach a smooth finish. You can then apply your polyethylene/paint etc… We recommend anchoring the panels under any machines with vibrations, and also anywhere you plan on rolling equipment across. This will ensure the seams remain nice and tight. To anchor panels, we recommend flat head 1-3/4 x ¼” Concrete screws (IE Tapcon) and a 4-1/2 x 3/16” Drill bit to bore the holes.

Q:Can the panels be glued together to ensure they don’t separate?

              Answer This Question

A:  Hello Greg, Thank you for reaching out! No, please do not glue the tongue and grooves, they are friction fit and should not come apart. Due to the friction fit, glue would just become a great mess and may also cause swelling of the seams.

Q:The description says "Raises finish FLOOR temperatures by up to 17 F". How much would the actual ROOM temp itself be affected? For example in a 342sq ft garage in NYC with insulation already in the walls but with a current concrete floor. Thanks.

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello L123, We cannot provide a precise temperature change, only a range, unfortunately there are too many contributing factors. In the application you mention in addition to insulating your floor, you will be creating a thermal barrier against the cold concrete, blocking the warm air pumped into the room from escaping, resulting in a warmer space.

A:  I installed this in my basement along with foam boards on the walls and it is all finished. This will insulate to a degree. When the unfinished part of the basement is 55 the finished room will be 60ish. This does not raise temps.
