A:  It worked great for a 4” square post. You might need to trim or use shims to get a good fit

A:  I seriously doubt it. I am not impressed by the performance of the ones I installed last fall on standard 4x4 posts. I had a few of the posts that were either sheared off at the ground or significantly cracked at the same level. Even though these are heavy gage steel, they did not have enough length to fully support the post and the repair failed after a few months. I would recommend complete post replacement for a permanent repair.

A:  Actually you could use it for a sheared off Post. I have cut off the head of a 16d nail and pounde it into the bottom part of the remaining wood , pointy end up. Then place the old top of Post on the nail and tamp it down. Then brace the Post and install the Post doctor. Check it out online!!

                  Answer This Question

A:  Well, typically we're repairing weakened wood. Is it a solid vinyl post? I've never seen one like that. My guess is no, you need another vinyl post. See our installation video below.

                  A:  No

                  by|May 5, 2023

A:  No, this is only recommended for wood posts.

                    by|May 5, 2023

A:  I do not think so. It requires putting screws into the wood to hold it up right.

A:  Actually, we have tooled up for what we call a 4" XL, as standard 4 x 4 is 3 3/4". Unfortunately, we can only cover 6" from the top of the concrete foundation. Why did it rot way up there? Normally it's due to water from the ground.

A:  There is one unit in a box. We also sell a contractor pack of eight that is more competitively priced per unit, as we don't have to supply 16 phillips head and wood boring bits, and the box is expensive in itself. A:  I have fixed a post that was rotted thru by cutting the end of a 16D nail off, and then pounding the balance of the nail backwards, point up, into the bottom half of the remaining wood. Then place the top half onto the spike, and then level the post left and right with stakes. Then, I installed the Post Doctor around the broken halves. Lastly, I poured mortar all around the structure and then above the break in the two pieces. So far, it's holding up. Well worth a try, instead of the high expense of complete replacement. If the post was a sheared off mailbox, it's a lot easier, because you have all good wood to work with. Good luck.
