Q:Does this come with the tape shown in the video? Or do I need to buy that separately?

Answer This Question

A:  There is enough tape in the package to install the blanket properly

A:  Yes. The length of tape provided suffices for one joint along the end of the roll. So, if you intend piecing together a top for your tank, cutting and filling access panels or otherwise splicing / lengthening the blanket in any direction, prepare with supplemental tape. I found gaffer's tape and Gorilla tape work well.

A:  I had some extra foil type HVAC tape which makes for a more complete job, comes with some just not quite enough. It’s not expensive so it’s worth it to pick a roll up

Q:Is the vinyl material just on the outside, or is it on the inside and outside? If it covers the inside and outside, it would be easier to handle the fiberglass material. I have an older electric single element 55 gallon 70" tall approx water heater.

            Answer This Question

A:  Vinyl is just on the outside. I wore a pair of latex gardening gloves while handling it. Not sure this blanket will be big enough for your unit.

            by|Jul 7, 2020

A:  Vinyl material is only on the outside...fiberglass on the inside.. do not put vinyl on the inside otherwise the heated side

            by|May 21, 2020

A:  Vinyl just on the outside. Installed mine on a short 50 gallon electric dual element water heater.

              Answer This Question

A:  Fiberglass has a high flame rate and when this product is used as a water heater blanket it is safe. It should not be used for anything other than its intended use.

Q:Am confused as to the energy-saving claim: the product is either R3.5 or it's R19. Which is it? (I realize R19 is high considering it's not even an inch thick, but am still wondering why there are 2 values listed on the one product, with the R3.5 being in the 'title'.

                  Answer This Question

A:  The rating is R3.5 whereas it acts like an R19 because of its construction.

                  by|Jan 14, 2019

A:  Sure looks like the R-value is only 3.5, not 19. Fiberglass batts have R-value of about 3-3.5 PER INCH, and these bats are only 1" thick. Have no idea why that R-19 value is out there (description indicates "R19 Equivalant," but does not explain "equivalent." Expect only R3.5 from this product. I do not see that the "reflective" component of the blanket would add any insulation value, because there has to be empty space between a heat source and reflective barrier to have any insulation value.

                    Answer This Question

A:  Probably - you would just need to fit it horizontally with the longest side. You might have to buy two and tape them together (tape is included). Measuring the circumstance and height of your low boy is the best way to know for sure.

A:  My hot water heater is also electric and located in the garage. Since I have used the blanket from the first day of living in my house, new construction, I am not sure if it is better or not using it. I feel that for the money it cost me -anything could be better then using nothing on it. Sorry I cannot be better help.

A:  Yes . I bought this for a 40 gallon electric water heater and i used it to insulate the tank from 8 inches up from the bottom of the tank and it works very well saving approx 30% electricity usage over the month and the water flows much hotter

A:  You do not need it to go all the way to the bottom. The bottom couple of inches in the water heater parts to make it function. Look on YouTube you will see what I mean

A:  No, they do not, however, male sure you are not trying to cover up the fire box if gas, and the actual interior wher the wate is stored does not start on an electric water heater 6 inches from the bottom of the water heater.
