A: You should use a latex ceiling paint. An oil based plant "can" react with the latex primer. It could alligator. N

A: You can use any type of final coat over this primer. This primer will feel watery and look like it is not covering well, but once it is dry makes an excellent sealant over drywall to paint your final coat. good luck!

A: Hearther, yes, Semi-gloss paint as a top coat is just fine. Good luck with your project!

A: Yes, you can apply semi-gloss over this primer. That is exactly the paint I used and it turned out great! I believe any final paint finish will go over this primer. Remember as you apply this primer it will look and go on sort of thin but when it dries you will be in great shape.

A: Standard sheet is 4x8. The 4x12 is a jumbo sheet.

A: I would do the math. Check square footage coverage and use that. Just beware this primer goes on thin, you may not think you are getting good coverage, but it dries to a nice paintable surface.

Q:How many square feet will this cover? The description says one pail will cover 45 sheets of drywall. Drywall commonly comes in 4x8 and 4x12 sheets. That is a significant difference.

A: I was able to cover a complete living room, hallway and half a kitchen with one pale... just over 1000 Sq ft I would say of wall space... and that was putting 2 coats on.

A: Coverage is a function not only of square feet, but how the drywall has been finished, and how picky you are about the final appearance of the finished product. You will need 2 coats on new drywall because the bare drywall really soaks this stuff up. A painter that works for me says this is the best primer he has every used. I like it too, but it can be a bit frustrating to apply, especially the first coat. This is because the stuff is really thick, which is good, but it means you don't cover a lot of area with a single load of primer on your roller. Also, if there are a lot of places with a fairly heavy mud layer, such as near corner bead, inside corners, etc. you will need even more because it gets soaked up.
Just remember: primer is about half the price of paint. I tint the primer a shade lighter than the paint I plan to cover it with. This way, the paint already has not only a good primer base, but the color is very close to the desired final result. I have been able to use two coats of tinted primer like this, and then a single coat of the Glidden Premium flat base, and I got good coverage. I did not need a second coat of paint. So 2 coats of primer a 1 coat of paint is cheaper that 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of paint, and the result looks the same. I tint the primer one shade lighter than the color coat because that makes it easer to see where I have already painted when I am applying the color coat.

A: It will buil kiltz is a better primer...
by|Apr 26, 2020
A: If the previous coats of orange are latex... a coat of primer with a light color should cover it. It might take a second coat of primer and/or top coat. If the main objective is to rid one's self of orange paint... do what ever you have to do to cover it. I always used at least two coats of top coat. One coat may cover but sometimes it takes to to hide the old.

A: No this is for new install drywall u can use the 2k primer. To cover
by|Apr 26, 2020
A: Not really, I’d get an outdoor regular primer. Not Kills or one that has a glue in it. Drywall primer is used to help new drywall hold paint better, not to cover dark colors.

A: No you should use an oil or alcohol based primer for that.

A: Yes. I bought a foreclosure house at auction a few years ago, and the garage was the "smoking room". Not only was everything tinted with cigarette smoke, but it smelled bad too. We went over the walls and patched any dings, etc. then primed it and painted it Glidden Marshmallow White. The color came out perfectly, and it is still good 3 years later.

A: An application of primer/sealer (Kilz, or similiar product) will first be needed. This primer is a latex base and will not cover nicotine stains sufficiently. They will very likely bleed through with out a sealer first.

A: It can but would take multiple coats. A better preparation would be a coat of oil base primer sealer first.
by|Apr 26, 2020
A: This is for use on drywall. If you want to seal the paneling, you should use a sealer such as Bin or Kilz. Otherwise you will get bleed-though into the paint as well. I prefer Bin because it drys faster.

Answer This Question
A: Yes... I was in the painting business in Illinois many years ago and sometimes it was necessary to have extended periods of time between primers and topcoats. The length of time is not usually relevant unless it is a year or two.
by|Apr 3, 2020
A: Yes, it doesn't hurt to wait longer, but don't apply the second coat too soon.
