A:  Whenever it says out of stock within 100 miles...that means they don't stock it in-store. Online only. I've had to get this shipped to home or shipped to store a few times.

Q:I want to use this butcher block for food prep. Since The butcher block conditioner needs to be reapplied often, Should I use a different product that is more permanent on the underside or will several coats of conditioner before installing be adequate?

      Answer This Question

A:  Becky, Great Question! You do need to commit to picking either a food safe sealant or a more permanent seal. Because food processing is your intention, I recommend purchasing an unfinished piece applying a food safe mineral oil or food safe butcher block conditioner. Apply the number of recommended coats to all sides of butcher block before installation, after installation, you only need to reapply the food safe sealant of your choosing to the top side of the butcher block. Have fun with your project, we are here for any more questions. Thank you!!- Hardwood Reflections.

A:  Randy, Our topcoat is a pretty easy application process. This is made to be used in conjunction with Hardwood reflections Gel Stain. Found on the website, you can use a brush, pad, or roller to apply the top coat to the product. Be sure to apply thing to avoid dripping, wipe access with dry cloth. Thank you! Hardwood Reflections

A:  Randy, It looks like this topcoat is available online and to pick up in certain locations. I would give your local Home Depot a call to make sure this isn't available in your area. Thank you! -- Hardwood Reflections

Q:Have purchased Beech Butcher Block from Hardwood Reflections (HomeDepot). Do I need to use a wood conditioner before applying Gel Stain - Dark Walnut?

            Answer This Question

A:  233Globalbazar, Lightly sanding should ensure your product finishes evenly; but if you are worried about it you can definitely add wood conditioner before the application of Gel Stain. I hope this helped your project. Thank you, Hardwood Reflections

Q:I am applying a espresso gel stain to my hevea butcher block desktop. Is this the same as applying a polyeurathane finish? Is this the most matte finish available or is there a "matte top coat"?

              Answer This Question

A:  Alex, This would be a great question for a Home Depot stain specialist. I can't say that this is the most 'matte' because I am unsure of what topcoats your local Home Depot provides. A gel stain is going to differ from a regular polyurethane. Your local HD stain expert should have the ability to to tell you the difference in sheens and this should help you decipher which topcoat you purchase. Thank you-- Hardwood Reflections

Q:Can I apply this stain over butcher block that has already been sealed with mineral oil? I hate the yellow/orange color that my Hardwood Reflections countertop turned after sealing it! It clashes with my floor, which is a darker, cooler tone.

                Answer This Question

A:  Lynn, Due to the difference in density of these finishes you can not put stain over mineral oil. Stain is a water based liquid. If you are wanting to re finish. the only way to reverse mineral oil is to rinse with light soap and warm water. Wait til it dries to ensure you have gotten all of the oil out of the piece. Maybe sand the piece for additional assurance. Once you can tell all of the mineral oil is out of your piece and its dry, you can refinish with the sealant of your choice. I have attached a link for your review. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fbqTXCeQIvM Thank you, I hope this aided in you project-- Hardwood Reflections.

Q:Somethings not right. I ordered a Pint. The can Says it's a Pint (not 1/2 pint) but it also says it's 237mL and that's only half a Pint. I mean the label says (237mL) Pint. It seems off and pricey for this little can. Guess I need to order more.

Q:If I plan on staining my butcher block outside, 60"x30" and applying a couple of coats for my standing desk. Should I not let this dry outside? or if I dry it inside will it smell like paint? Also should I stain before putting the desk legs on?

                      Answer This Question

A:  Mike, Its ideal for the wood and the product itself to be kept in a controlled environment. I, of course, can't say what your weather is like, but that can affect how the finish/sealent bonds with the natural product, your butcher block. A garage might be an okay solution if you are worried about the smell of paint. Thank you! Have a great weekend.

A:  I would advise letting dry indoors so as to not get dust, debris, or other matter on the top coat as it dries. Just make sure it's in a room with an open window and/or some kind of ventilation. The smell is not as offensive as paint though. I'd say this smells a little less stinky than a permanent marker. It's very mild.
