Answer This Question

A:  As long as it's NOT tempered, yes this will score the glass for you to "snap" it. Tempered glass will be marked somewhere, generally in a corner.

A:  It can help score the glass which allows you to break it off. Doing it cleanly is the trick.

A:  Yes, you can use this to cut mirror so long as you cut the front and back along the same exact line.

Q:I know it's not the intended use, but is there any reason why this could not be used to score vinyl plank flooring? Because of nerve damage, most box cutters hurt my hand when I have to use very much pressure, so I was thinking that something with a wheel rather than a fixed blade might be easier and this was the only thing I could think of. Just wondering if the wheel is sharp like a razor blade or if it is more abrasive.

                    Answer This Question

A:  This isnt good for thicker materials (glass). I would think you would have better luck using maybe an acrylic type of cutter. It's not made with a wheel but they are super sharp, and doesn't require much pressure

A:  I'm affraid it will not work for that. It has a carbide wheel that is designed to score hard material. I have seen vinal tile cutters that may work better for you, as long as your not cutting the planks length wise.

                      by|May 5, 2023

A:  At such a low price, I think it's worth a shot. One other suggestion - vinyl plank is MUCH easier to cut/score if you heat it with a hair dryer. It gets very pliable, and razor blades /box knives go though it like butter.

A:  I believe it would score it but you would need to go over a couple of times to actually cut it. Maybe score and then use a box cutter also would need a solid straight edge.

A:  UPDATE: I did order one of these online and picked it up at the store yesterday. I haven't even opened the package yet, but for some reason I pictured the wheel much larger and was kind of surprised to see that it is so tiny. However, knowing the thickness (or lack thereof) of the flooring that I have and the fact that it only has to be scored on the top layer, I think it will work perfectly for me. Thanks so much to "TheWoolf" for that hair dryer tip. I would never have thought of heating it and I will make sure to have my hair dryer handy! :)

A:  Yes it will. Just score the sheet to be cut a few times with a nice straight mark and give it a gentle tap once or twice on the piece to be removed and it should separate nicely.

                            by|May 5, 2023

A:  Yes, as long as the glass fits inside one of the three slots you will not have any problems. Make sure you put the glass on a flat surface to score it.

A:  It will -score- (non-tempered) glass of most any thickness. You do the actual breaking after this tool scores the glass for you.

A:  Yes, as long as you have a straight edge and make the cut about 1/4 to 1/2 inches away from the jagged edge, it will work. Just need to snap the cut edge carefully. The farther away the line from the jagged edge, the easier the cut will be.

A:  No, this -scores- glass. The glass needs to be on a stable surface to score, and be able to be placed on a hard edge to snap the glass along the score line. It's unlikely you'd be able to make a clean break on a jagged piece of window glass.

A:  You should have no problem cutting the mirror. This glass cutter will etch a line and then you will need to tap the part you dont to keep to make the cut final.

A:  I tried it, but it is not that easy. The ends kind of chip where you score the glass. If you looking for a clean cut, take it to the hardware store in your area. It is a tool best used for stained glass, like an artist would use.

A:  I wouldn't attempt to cut a thick glass table with this tool. It is probably too thick and too large to get the perfect cut. Instead of getting the good "snap" it will very likely shatter instead. I couldn't get the hang of this tool and ended up shattering a few pieces of glass. I ended up taking the dimensions to a professional who did the job for cheaper than the combined cost of the tool and glass that I broke.
