Answer This Question

A:  No, mine only locks open. Like you'd find in most locking pocket knives.

A:  Try to put a padlock in there but, if you lose the key, you'll have some job in trying to get it open. Just be happy with what you have.

A:  You sure can! This knife takes a standard blade size. You can get them anywhere, in packs of 5 or 100.

A:  Bought 3 different manufacturer standard blades and none fit. I gave up after cutting my index finger badly.

A:  Machine oil will not damage this item.

              by|May 3, 2023

A:  All it would take is 1 drop of penetrating oil on each side and then you could enjoy a knife that would be able to FLY to open it or close it.

A:  I have the same problem taking it back to home depot tomorrow . Only had it 5 years and already won't let me change blades . I hope they did a design change . I will get a new one free .

                  by|May 3, 2023

A:  First of all it appears there are a few different varieties of the Husky folding knife. For one of them you press down on the button to remove the blade, for another, you push the button up. It sounds like you have one that requires pushing the button in. If it seems like there is something preventing the blade from going into the slot, it could be that the button is not engaging the blade retention mechanism. In other words the button is not pushing the internal part that holds the blade into the knife when the button is released. If you have verified that there is nothing stuck in the slot, then I suspect the knife is defective. I suggest you take the knife to Home depot and speak with one of the associates. They should be able to check the tool and if defective, will most likely replace it for you.

A:  I have the same problem. This design makes no sense.

Q:how do I get the old blade out to replace it?

                    Answer This Question

A:  There is a release on the back of the handle blade, when pressed down it allows the blade to slide out and a new one slide in.

                    by|May 3, 2023

A:  You press the release button toward the handle and slide the outer part that has the oval hole down and this will reveal the blade, so you can lift it out.

A:  You are absolutely right, Bill. There is no release of the blade but there is release of the shield that helps keep the blade in place. Once you push the slide back, swing down the plate that covers the blade and now the old blade is fully accessible, ready to be removed and replaced with a new one. The cover will be pushed back up, will lock and the knife will be ready to be used again. It’s a great knife, isn’t it?

A:  Depends on the version of the knife. Mine has a silver slide-button and a white arrow on one side of the black part. Open the knife until the blade locks in place, then slide and hold the silver slide button in the direction indicated by the arrow. That unlocks the part with an oval hole. Rotate it down and away from the point of the blade. Lift out the old blade and lay the new blade in its place. Slide the silver button as before and rotate the part with the oval hole back up into place. Make sure the little hook on its end goes under the black part! If it won't go, open it again and check to be sure the blade is in the right place. Release the silver slide button and test to make sure the blade is secure.

A:  Can you see the oval opening so you can actually see the blade through it? Well, as you slide the button, place another finger on that oval opening and push ‘down’ exposing the whole blade which, in turn, can be easily removed and replaced with a new one. It really is incredibly easy, if you know how, or it could be very hard if you lack any mechanical ability. Now you can teach your friends that still have the same problem that afflicted you and they will be grateful and you will be admired and looked at as a problem solver. This is another great quality that this utility knife possesses.

A:  I had to look at everyones answers to get my mind open to understand my blade: The top of the blade has a flip lid. Once that is open, you can see from the top edge where to press to open the blade area. Thanks everyone!

A:  We must be talking about different knives. The one I refer to has a small button just in front of the handle. The problem is keeping the blade in. It falls out with annoying regularity.

A:  Normally if you take a tool like this back to Home Depot they will replace it for you. My understanding is that Husky tools are made by Dewalt which also make Black and Decker tools. You might try to get in touch with them.
