Q:I turned on the gas a few days ago, but it didn't burn, and when I found out that it had been ten minutes, there was a strong smell in the kitchen. But no sound, the production date is June 2021

Answer This Question
A: Hello. This alarm doesn't pick up raw natural gas. It picks up the carbon monoxide created when a fuel is burned, like natural gas or propane or coal, and the fuel doesn't burn hot enough to cook off the carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide would be in the exhaust and smoke and it is odorless and colorless and you wouldn't know it is there without the alarm. To detect raw natural gas or propane gas, you would need an explosive gas detector.

A: Hello. No. You will want the wireless alarms, P4010DCSCO-W, in-store model 21028747 or internet sale model 21028759. We also have a different series, the KN-COSM-B-RF model 21027448, a Home Depot exclusive, that is incompatible with the P4010 series wireless alarms.

Q:How do I test in a real fire situation? I recently burned food in the kitchen with lots of smoke and it didn't go off.

Answer This Question
A: If it doesn't go off in a smoke filled room, then in my opinion it's not working. However, make sure that the smoke did reach the alarm, since the alarm is supposed to be positioned away from the kitchen to prevent recurrent false alarms. There is a 10 year guaranty on this alarm, and if it doesn't work within the guaranty period, send it back to Kidde at the address in the warranty and they will repair or replace it for free. The postage to get it to them is on you. You can get their mailing address from the instructions and warranty available online if you don't have them.

A: I just had food get burned in the oven and it was a ton of smoke and it worked really well and went off. I would say check the device battery tab is pulled out so it was active?

A: Hello. There is not a safe way to test the alarm with actual fire. There does have to be enough smoke to rise to the ceiling and fill the ceiling with smoke down to the level of the alarm and fill into the back side edges of the alarm and fill the inside of the alarm with smoke. But without knowing more about what happened and without us testing the alarm, we wouldn't want to guess what happened here. Please call us at 1-800-880-6788 with the alarm in hand so we can get this resolved and get this alarm replaced and picked up to send to our engineers. Also make sure the alarm is properly installed per the owner's manual for best protection.

A: Hello. No, this is not a hardwired alarm. You will want to get a hardwired alarm. If you want an alarm like this, you will want the P4010ACSCO, which on Homedepot.com is Internet #305261308, Model #21029893, Store SKU #1003187529, Store SO SKU #1003181539

A: There is no wiring. The detector like almost all DIY installed detectors are self contained. The brackets always seem to be a little different but still easy to install with the provided hardware.

A: It does not have a voice alarm, the add for this product has 2 different types of detectors which is deceiving. One alarm has 1 speaker hole and another pic has 2 which I believe is the voice alarm.

Q:I have three of these interconnected. We were in a power outage, but we have back-up generator. After the power had been out for over an hour and our back up working fine, all of our units started sounding an alarm followed by both fire and carbon monoxide warning. The hush button would only stop the unit for a new seconds. I disconnected the unit completely and the the others stopped but the one disconnected continued to sound the alarm. I took it out into the Garage and it stopped. These were installed before we bought the house and don't have a date on them.

A: Hi Jerry sounds like you will just need to replace them, could be the power surge before the power went out may have damaged them, and best would be to replace as cant be sure will work correctly after that
by|Jul 12, 2021
A: When 3 units are interconnected, one of them detects smoke (CO2 or CO), and all three will sound the alarm.
The unit that you disconnected, was the one that had detected smoke. It meant the smoke from the back-up generator had enter to the room with the disconnected detector. Because there was no smoke in the garage, it stopped.

A: Is your Generator powered by gasoline? Do you have pilots on your stove or your boiler? Sounds like they may have picked up carbon monoxide. Carbon Monoxide has no smell. It would seem that was the device was cleared when you brought the detector into garage. When carbon Monoxide detectors go off it's usually protocol to open and vent the area.

Q:Which one of the KIDDE Detectors are recalled ? I bought my Kidde Alarm, ten year, combo with voice on 9/07/2019 from Home Depot. I can't find a model number on my receipt or papers or the detector. How can I tell if this is a recalled item? I don't want to depend on something that will fail my family's safety. Please help.

A: The model number is on the detector. It is very simple to remove, just a little twist. There should be a label around the edge and also on the back, both places on mine have the model number. I'm sure some regulatory agency requires it.
The units I purchased at Home Depot within the last year or so were the 3000 series.
The recalled smoke alarms are models 2040-DSR, 2050-DS10, 2060-ASR, 2070-VDSR, and 2070-VASR. The recalled Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide alarms are models 2070-VDSCR and 2070-VASCR. Consumers can check the model number on the back of the alarms.
