Q:Will this be good for keeping in my truck? Texas has 110 degree summer days so I'm looking for a fire extinguisher that can stay in my truck when it fills with heat to maybe 130 degrees.

Answer This Question

A:  The following is from the Kidde site, but from what I gather it will still work at 130°F, but with less discharge time: "UL tests all dry chemicals to tolerate from -40 to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. This includes the Kidde automotive fire extinguisher. The operational test requires the fire extinguisher to discharge at a specified time and powder amount. UL does not have the option of testing for operation above 120 degrees. At temperatures above 120 degrees, the fire extinguisher will still function, but the discharge time may be a little shorter than the 9 to 10 seconds required by UL. UL requires the fire extinguisher to be able to withstand storage at 175 degrees without rupture. High temperatures will decrease the life of the elastomeric seals, so storage above 120 degrees will decrease the life of the fire extinguisher."

A:  Hello. Then no. It is rated to be used and stored in areas between -40 degrees F and 120 degrees F. You might be able to get away with installing it outside the vehicle in the bed with the bracket but still please keep in mind the limits of the extinguisher when it comes to temperature and use your best judgement.

Q:Is this good for appliances like an electric oven or do I need to buy one that specifically says Kitchen appliances?
      by|Sep 1, 2022

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello. Yes. And no. You don't NEED to buy one that specifically says for a kitchen appliance. This ABC extinguisher will put out a fire on a kitchen appliance. The extinguishing agent powder works by melting and smothering hot surfaces and if it melts and fuses with the hot metal of a stove or oven, it can corrode and damage the stove and the oven. However, a serious fire could damage a stove or an oven anyways and you should always have your appliances checked out by a professional after any serious fire if you don't just replace them. The kitchen appliance extinguishers use B:C powder consisting of baking soda and other ingredients. It will put out B class liquid fuel fires such as oil and grease and will put out C class electrical fires. It is not very effective against A class paper, wood and trash fires but it also won't melt and is not likely to damage a stove or oven either. The choice is yours.

A:  Technically we need to make sure about the performance of Fire Extinguisher in my house . I just check the pressure of Fire Extinguisher to be in green area by myself . In my view ,it depends on your business standard requirements . If you have to follow specific standard like ISO 28000 , you need to check by third party .

          by|Aug 14, 2022

A:  Hello. That depends on your local fire codes. Some local fire codes allow you to go one year from the date of purchase of the extinguisher before requiring annual maintenance and inspection. Some local codes will allow you to go one year before inspection and maintenance as long as the extinguisher was made that calendar year. Some local codes want new extinguishers inspected and maintained right away after purchase. Check with your local authority requiring fire extinguishers, usually the local fire department or local fire marshal's office, and find out from them exactly what kind of extinguisher you are required to have, exactly where you are required to have it, and exactly what the code requires for inspection and maintenance of a new fire extinguisher.

A:  In the Use and Care Manual: Class B: For fires involving flammable liquids such as gasoline, oil, solvents and oil-based paint. Class B fires often spread rapidly. Unless properly suppressed, they can re-flash after the flames have been extinguished.

A:  Hello. The letters shown on the label of the fire extinguisher indicate that it has been tested and found to be effective on those classes of fires. Class A: Fires that involve common combustibles such as wood, paper, cloth, rubber, trash, and plastics. Class B: Fires that involve solvents, oil, gasoline, paints, lacquers and other oil-based products. Class C: Fires that involve energized electrical equipment. This extinguisher is an ABC extinguisher and has been rated for B class fires, so the answer is yes.

A:  It says it is dry chemical, which cannot freeze. I would still ask the manufacturer. The documents mention high heat, but not cold.

A:  Hello. Our dry chemical extinguishers can be stored in locations that get between -40 F to +120F. If you live in a location where it drops below -40 then no. Otherwise it should be fine.

Q:This product page says these contain Monoammonium Phosphate as the dry chemical content. But the SDS form also linked from this page, says they contain Sodium Bicarbonate. HD does not show any model name or number so it's impossible to look them up on the manufacturer website. What model number and what's in them? Thanks.

A:  Wow, interesting question, and it brings up a valid point... The box... doesn't say. The unit itself refers to the owner's manual (PIN: 21028186), which is conspicuously missing from the box... I may have to edit my review of this product. Thanks for opening my eyes to this! My unit is model FA110G, just in case other models are also featured in this site. Okay, the unit does indicate Monoammonium Phosphate and Ammonium Sulphate. (Bottom left corner of the product label.)
