Q:I would find it easier to have the plywood laying down and move the jig.

Answer This Question

A:  I don't believe there is a screw which would work in thin ply wood. This tool did come with an additional "jig" which I was able to clamp to 3/4 inch and it worked just fine

by|Jan 27, 2022

A:  I have not done that, but I do believe that would be easier. I have not used it with plywood.

    by|Jan 1, 2020

A:  I have drilled full 4x8 sheets. I typically leave the sheet laying down & clamp the jig to the sheet & drill.

    by|Jan 7, 2020

A:  Take the drill shoe piece off and clamp that to the work piece

    by|Jan 8, 2020

A:  They make one for sheet goods that use with a clamp. I have one and very easy to use and works on all plywood thicknesses

Q:What is the maximum diameter drill bit that can be used with this jig?
            by|Nov 11, 2019

            Answer This Question

A:  The jig is designed to work with the bit that is included. The bit pre-drills the hole while creating a shoulder for the screw to sit against, a regular drill bit won’t get the job done. It fits perfectly into the metal lined holes of the jig. You should also be using the manufacturers screws or similar pocket style screw.

            by|Nov 12, 2019

A:  Only 1 drill size can be used with this jig.

            by|Nov 13, 2019

A:  You need to use the step bit that comes with the kit I believe it is 3/8.

            by|Jul 6, 2021
              1 found this answer helpful

A:  The bit is provided with the jig. It is the maximum size that can be used because the jig has a metal sleeve. The hole accommodates only that sized bit. You will destroy the bushing and affect the life of the jig if you try to use anything bigger.

              by|Nov 13, 2019

A:  They make a bit specifically for this jig and it’s one diameter. there is a stop that can be adjusted for different material thicknesses. It’s a great tool once you get use to it . Hopefully this helped

                  by|May 8, 2019

A:  For this to properly work, you need to use the Kreg specific drill bit because it has a special tip design.

                  by|May 8, 2019

A:  You need to use the special stepped Kreg bit to get a strong glue free joint.

A:  use the kreg bit. they make a pilot hole for the screws and leave material to hold one board to the other. the kit comes with one and you can buy more. I have drilled hundreds of holes and the bit it still sharp

A:  I believe the same screws you would use for joining any type of wood. But you need the screws that are used with this pocket hole system. I would still use wood glue on the joints.

A:  YOU can use the Kreg screws and I would also glue the joints. I would not trust the screws alone to bond the mdf together.

A:  I would use the course bits. Be careful not to use to much torque because it is easy for the screws to strip out when using MDF.

A:  You can use the screws that it comes with, but you should use an adhesive in the hole for a better bond if you are working with mdf

                                    by|Jan 8, 2020

A:  You would use the same pocket hole screws as you would with solid wood. You could actually use any type of screw as long as the screw shaft isn't tapered where it meets the underside of the screw head. You want the underside of the screw head to be perpendicular to the screw shaft. Otherwise you could split the wood or mdf that the screw heads will reside in as you tighten the screws down. I've used pocket holes well over 500 times in building cabinetry and have used them successfully with solid wood, plywood, and particleboard/mdf.

A:  As long as the clamp foot fit in the little pocket on the back, i dont see why not. The only issue you may run into is if the clamp bar sticks up too high, it might get in the way of your drill.

Rather than connecting K4 vacuum attachment, I direct jumbo 2 1/2" vacuum hose around K4 after doing several drillings; be careful vacuum will swallow marking pens, screws, wood dust/chips! My K4 used job-specific, not multi-pieces production set-up. My process is: set-up K4 and wood pieces, dry-fit and mark hole locations, drill guide holes, vacuum and put away K4, clamp pieces to jig, glue and screw, vacuum jig (store) and work bench/floor.
