Questions and Answers for Kwikset Tustin Satin Nickel Exterior Entry Door Handle and Single Cylinder Deadbolt Combo Pack Featuring SmartKey Security

A:  The deadbolt key plates and handle plates are approx. 2.75".

A:  The Tustin lever rose plate is 2-5/8" in diameter. For the 980 deadbolt the exterior diameter is 2-5/8" and the interior diameter is 2-19/32".

A:  Wayne, I included a picture of how I installed mine. They are not quite French doors...they are designed to look like French doors, but only one door opens, and it is hinged to the door that does not open (ie, hinged in the middle of the two doors). I imagine it could work with real French doors as the deadbolt is fairly long. I imagine an "true" external French door would require upper and lower bolts. I do like the Kwikset, but like all external handles, the weather and sun will eventually take their toll on the finish, though this one seems to be lasting as good or better than others I've installed.

A:  Yes it will fit a standard drilled French door this set is a door handle and dead lock. The second door will need a dummy handle to look symmetrical because the second door should have its own upper and lower lock in the jam it if is a newer french door.

A:  This Kwikset Combo Pack fits doors with a borehole size of 2-1/8" in diameter for the lever, and 2-1/8" or 1-1/2” in diameter for the deadbolt. The locks fit a door thickness between 1-3/8" to 2-1/4". Thick door kits may be required for doors between 1-7/8" to 2-1/4" thick. The latch fits a backset of either 2-3/8" or 2-3/4". If your metal door is within these dimensions then, yes, this set can be installed on your door. A matching handle on the other door is optional.

A:  Yes, the locks do come with the smart key tool!

A:  Yes, it comes with the lock.

A:  Yes, but you must have a working key to use the SmartKey to rekey the lock (else someone could simply rekey your lock and break-in...).

A:  Since I have successfully installed mine, I have discarded the instructions. Therefore, I'm not sure what you are referring to with "side locking bar technology". If you are talking about the re-keying capability on the dead bolt, the answer is yes, the dead bolt can be rekeyed easily. Hope this helps.

A:  Yes, if the Baldwin Nautica has SmartKey technology then it is compatible for re-keying with Kwikset SmartKey lock. The description of the Baldwin Nautica would have SMT within the description of the model indicating it is SmartKey.

A:  They would need your key to begin the process. And, of course, if they had that they would not need to rekey your locks to break in. Should not be a concern. They’ve designed it to prevent your worry. Very pleased with them on my home. Cheers.

A:  Yes, but you have to have the original key to reset the lock. So you need more than just the tool.

A:  In order to use the smart key you have to have the current key, and a new key. So technically if they had, the smart key, and your current key yes I would think anyone could change the key.

A:  By "smart key" I assume you mean the little flat tool used for resetting the lock. Your current operating key has to be inserted and turned 90 degrees to reset the lock to a new key before the little tool is used. These locks cannot be rekeyed without the original key. Hope that helps.

A:  No. To rekey these, you need the key that currently unlocks the lockset. As long as you have the original key and no one has a copy of it, you shouldn't have anything to worry about. I hope this helps!

A:  Most likely not. Sliders usually have their own locking mechanism- depending on brand. These locks/levers are designed for inward/outward swinging doors.
