Answer This Question

A:  No this design does not you would have to look into industrial lighting in this category.

by|Jul 5, 2019

A:  I am a customer, I am not a HD buyer, so I do not know if this fixture is available in 8 ft length and if it comes in different color temperature and CRI. I would propose to check the Lithonia website.

Q:I would be replacing an existing Fluorescent fixture that uses T12 bulbs (two per fixture). The previous homeowner left a box of fluorescent tubes for it, marked to provide 2200 lumens each. Based on the 4000 lumens output shown for this fixture, the room would actually appear slightly darker, correct? Or am I missing something?

    Answer This Question

A:  Would be slightly lower in lumens but LEDS sometimes have a different color. Unless you are picky, or have a particular environment, I doubt you would be bothered by difference.

A:  LBL4 will deliver 4000 Lumens. Regarding light bulb lumen output please reach out directly to light bulb manufacturer.

Q:Curious why this is more expensive than the Commercial Electric 54677641. The Commercial Electric is $30 less and provides 1200 more lumens. The only difference that i can see is that this Lithonia has a prismatic cover to diffuse the light, whereas the Commercial Electric has a 'frosted' cover.

A:  I am a customer, I am not a buyer for HomeDepot. I purchased the product, I like the product. I agree it is on the high end of the price scale. I hope the unit cost will drop one day. The light effect is great with that prism lens. I have not considered the Commercial Electric brand.

A:  Beside the visual differences you mentioned, there is one important difference: The unit from Commercial requires an external electrical box for the connection and the Lithonia has a interior, self-contained and shrouded area for the connection. So if you don't want to or can't fit a new box above the fixture, then choose Lithonia. I have both kinds of units and the Lithonia is a more substantial product.

A:  Can’t answer why the commercial lights are less expensive, but it looks like the commercial lights use more energy ( 57 watts vs 41 watts ) I installed 3 of the 41 watt lights in my garage & provide more than adequate lighting for my needs. Very happy with the product.

A:  Yes. Its packing. The light is brighter and looks better without it. (in my opinion).

            by|Nov 18, 2023

A:  It's been so long I can't remember, but it has to be. There was nothing like that in the light when I finished installing it.

              by|Nov 18, 2023

A:  I had the same question and since this post has different answers I searched and found another that says yes it?s designed to stay in there, not saying you can?t remove it if you want, probably just wouldn?t diffuse light as well

                by|Sep 27, 2021

A:  Yes packing material and unnecessary.

Q:The unit I have has orange plug-in wire connections on the black and white wires. The hole in the connectors is too small to accept the two twisted black and two twisted white wires I have coming out of my ceiling. Am I ok to clip off these plug-in wire connections and use a standard wire nuts? Also there is a grey wire and purple wire coming out of the ballast. They are not mentioned in the installation instructions. What are these two wires for?

A:  American electrical contractors and electricians are required to follow the National Electrical Code (“NEC”) with regard to wiring colors. NEC imposes the following electrical wiring color standards: Ground wires: green, green with a yellow stripe, or bare copper Neutral wires: white or gray In theory, wiring conducting live current in the U.S. is permitted to be any other color, although in practice, electrical contractors and electricians follow these local conventions: Single phase live wires: black (or red for a second “hot” wire) 3-phase live wires: black, red and blue for 208 VAC; brown, yellow, purple for 480 VAC Most countries in Europe, including the U.K., now follow the color conventions established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (“IEC”). These color conventions are as follows: Earth wires (called ground wires in the U.S. and Canada): green with a yellow stripe Neutral wires: blue Single phase live wires: brown 3-phase live wires: brown, black and gray Electrical wiring in Canada is governed by the Canadian Electric Code (“CEC”). The following wiring color requirements apply in Canada: Ground wires: green, or green with a yellow stripe Neutral wires: white Single phase live wires: black (or red for a second live wire) 3-phase live wires: red, black and blue It’s important to remember that the above color information applies only to AC circuits. Completely different color standards apply to wiring used in DC circuits. (This information is easily found on the internet). Regarding 'the opening in the fixture is too small to accept your ceiling wires' you should be able to discern this before you try and install the fixture: - so you should make the hole in the fixture slightly larger - which is a common issue that many installers are forced to accommodate. That is really not very difficiult

A:  Wire nuts, black to black and white to white are fine. Should also have a ground wire to connect frame to service. Re the other wires mentioned, don't recall what they are for. I didn't use them. Some units have ballasts suitable for connection of dimmers. May be for that.

A:  There's no problem using wire nuts that fit. Clip off the ones supplied and use whatever ones you want. As for the wires coming from the ballast... I THINK they are to wire another light in series. If want multiple lights to come on when you 'hit the switch' (i.e., close the contact with a switch) you can wire the second light to these wires from the ballast. You could then run another light from the same wires from the second light, and so on.

A:  You can cut the connector off and go direct. Not sure what the other wires are.

A:  Just cut the black and white wire at the connector and wire nut them to the wires in your box. Leave the ballast wires alone.

A:  The extra wires I believe are for the optional on off sensors perhaps. I cut several extra wires off with the plugs. As long as you have black to black and white to white with green ground attached (I did use wire nuts) you should be fine. I hooked one light up without cutting off the wire it works fine too.

It is the minimum "entry level" o/head lite fx. If you are doing it for a work space in a garage, consider a O/head unit with a shield made of metal. You can find them on line as I recall.

I suggest you buy an electronic dimmer, one that is designed for LED and compact fluorescent bulbs. LEDs, when dimmed however, usually do not go all the way down to off. For that you have to switch it off.
