Q:will this product bond the polystyrene to sanded plywood
    by|Aug 11, 2023

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Yes, Loctite Power Grab Tub-Surround Construction Adhesive will bond a polystyrene surround to unpainted, unsealed plywood. It is important to apply the adhesive to the polystyrene first, and not to the wall. Applying this adhesive to the wall first will not allow the adhesive to develop a good bond to the surround.

Q:Does this require a primer to be applied to the moisture-resistant drywall before installation of the surround? If so which product is recommended

            Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. When using Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive, primer is not required or recommended on moisture resistant drywall except only to cover areas where joint compound was used, such as over seams and fastener penetrations. If the drywall was completely primed, then you might consider using Loctite Power Grab Ultimate-White (in red tube) for the project.

                Q:Will this adhere to RedGuard?
                by|Apr 11, 2023
                1 Answer
                Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product. It requires one bonding surface to be porous for it to work and cannot bond two non-porous substrates together. This product is compatible with the RedGard product; however, if you are installing a non-porous tub surround and bonding to RedGard (also non-porous), then the adhesive will not bond or cure properly and should not be considered.

                    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. You might consider Loctite Power Grab Ultimate - white (red tubes) for this installation. Your success in bonding directly to thinset materials will depend upon how structurally sound the material is and if it is free of any release agents. In this situation you need to test for adhesion first before doing the project.
