Q:If this won't work on Durock water resistant cement board to adhere a fiberglass surround, what product will work? I want to attach Mustee surround to Durock. Will this stick to thinset?

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. You might consider Loctite Power Grab Ultimate - white (red tubes) for this installation. Your success in bonding directly to thinset materials will depend upon how structurally sound the material is and if it is free of any release agents. In this situation you need to test for adhesion first before doing the project.

A:  Thank you for the question. In general, Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is meant to install the tub surround over drywall and not vice versa. Further, this is a latex, water-based product and should not be used over joint compounds as they will dissolve. Given the nature of your installation, please reach out to our technical team at 1-800-624-7767 and ask to talk with an application engineer so we can better under the project requirements.

Q:Can it be used on a toilet mounted on a tile floor

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Tub Surround Adhesive is not a caulking material and would not be recommended for use as such. But, it is not clear to us what you are intending the adhesive to do. The adhesive would not work if you were trying to adhere the toilet to the floor as it is a latex, water-based product and requires at least one bonding surface to be porous.

            Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product and requires at least one bonding surface to be porous. This adhesive will not work for the application described. If you do not want to remove the existing shower walls, you might consider using Loctite PL Premium Adhesive as an alternative and providing bracing for at least 24-48 hours until the adhesive cures. It is recommended that you clean the existing wall thoroughly and consider roughing the surface to improve adhesion. Keep in mind, your success is dependent upon the structural integrity of the existing walls.

Q:Why can?t this product be used to glue overlap sections of a tub surround and what do you recommend for that?

              Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product and requires one bonding surface to be porous. Latex products like this cannot bond two non-porous surfaces together. Because there are so many tub surrounds on the market and not knowing the make/model you have makes it difficult to provide a proper answer. Some overlaps are not meant to be glued while others may simply need a silicone sealant. We recommend you contact the Tub Surround manufacturer for further assistance.
