Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. In general, Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is meant to install the tub surround over drywall and not vice versa. Further, this is a latex, water-based product and should not be used over joint compounds as they will dissolve. Given the nature of your installation, please reach out to our technical team at 1-800-624-7767 and ask to talk with an application engineer so we can better under the project requirements.

    Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product and requires one bonding surface to be porous. The average tub surround will take at least 4 tubes of adhesive but it may be more depending on the make, model, and type of tub surround you have, the type of wall surface you have, and what the tub surround manufacturer’s instructions are stating.

Q:Can it be used on a toilet mounted on a tile floor

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Tub Surround Adhesive is not a caulking material and would not be recommended for use as such. But, it is not clear to us what you are intending the adhesive to do. The adhesive would not work if you were trying to adhere the toilet to the floor as it is a latex, water-based product and requires at least one bonding surface to be porous.

Q:I am wondering if I have acrylic shower walls. I want to leave them and use your adhesive to bond the fiberglass shower shell walls to the acrylic wall. Will your product perform correctly for this application?

        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product and requires at least one bonding surface to be porous. This adhesive will not work for the application described. If you do not want to remove the existing shower walls, you might consider using Loctite PL Premium Adhesive as an alternative and providing bracing for at least 24-48 hours until the adhesive cures. It is recommended that you clean the existing wall thoroughly and consider roughing the surface to improve adhesion. Keep in mind, your success is dependent upon the structural integrity of the existing walls.

Q:Why can?t this product be used to glue overlap sections of a tub surround and what do you recommend for that?
          by|Feb 8, 2023

          Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product and requires one bonding surface to be porous. Latex products like this cannot bond two non-porous surfaces together. Because there are so many tub surrounds on the market and not knowing the make/model you have makes it difficult to provide a proper answer. Some overlaps are not meant to be glued while others may simply need a silicone sealant. We recommend you contact the Tub Surround manufacturer for further assistance.

Q:Will this bond foam board to a metal roof

                Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. The answer is no, Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround adhesive will not bond foam board to a metal roof. First, and most important, this adhesive is a latex, water-based product and cannot bond two non-porous substrates. Second, this product cannot withstand the potential heat generation from solar impact to a metal roof and would fail.

A:  If your looking to cover up an existing tiled wall with a plastic surround, then no, don’t do it. You’ll be sorry.  Take the time to demo the tile and sheet rock. If your looking to caulk a tile line on top of a plastic surround, then use normal silicone based tub and tile caulk.

                      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. It is possible; however, Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product and does require one bonding surface to be porous so the successful use will depend upon the type of panel you are installing and what type of paint was used on the wall surface. Keep in mind the painted surface may need to be sanded or removed.
