Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. The answer is no, Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product and requires at least one bonding surface to be porous. This product will not bond two non-porous substrates together because the adhesive will not cure.

A:  If your looking to cover up an existing tiled wall with a plastic surround, then no, don’t do it. You’ll be sorry.  Take the time to demo the tile and sheet rock. If your looking to caulk a tile line on top of a plastic surround, then use normal silicone based tub and tile caulk.

Q:Can this be applied to interior wall panels and adhere to painted drywall?

      Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. It is possible; however, Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product and does require one bonding surface to be porous so the successful use will depend upon the type of panel you are installing and what type of paint was used on the wall surface. Keep in mind the painted surface may need to be sanded or removed.

Q:Can this be used to fill the seams of tub surround?

            Answer This Question

A:  It's glue, not a sealer. Silicon-based caulk would be better for filling the seams.

            by|Nov 7, 2022

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround should not be used to fill seams on a tub surround and would not be recommended in this situation. The product is a latex, water-based adhesive and it will not cure between two non-porous substrates. You should refer to the tub surround manufacturer’s instructions or contact them if you are having difficulties with the seams.

                        Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for the question. Loctite Power Grab Tub Surround Adhesive is a latex, water-based product. It can be used on moisture resistant gypsum/drywall but it is not recommended for use on waterproof cement board such as HardieBacker, Durock® cement board, or other waterproof panels like Wedi Board. You might consider using Loctite Power Grab Ultimate-White. What is important to know is making sure these types of tile backer boards are clean and free of dust typically associated with them otherwise the adhesive with not bond properly. Also, the Power Grab Ultimate is not a trowel grade product so if instructions by the surround manufacturer call for troweling the adhesive, then this product may not be suitable for the application.
