A: The short answer is that it needs to be on a 20 amp. breaker. The compressor pulls 13.8 amps. A 15 amp breaker is good for 80% of 15 amps when used continuously. 80% of 15 is 12, so the breaker is overloaded. I have had the compressor for a few years and am very happy with it but it is on a 20 amp breaker
A: First thing is that there shouldn't be any outlets that are on the same circuit as lights. Outlets are always run with 12ga. wire and usually have 20 amp breakers and lighting is run with 14ga. wire and usually have a 15 amp breaker. If you are in a house where a previous owner did some remodeling and tied into a lighting circuit that would probably be the problem. The Makita 3 H.P. draws quit a bit when it kicks on and the 15 amp lighting circuit won't be able to handle the draw especially if there are several lights on or ones with a higher wattage plus (depending on a possible remodeling/ tying into the wrong circuits) there might be something else tied into the same lighting circuit that you don't know about. If you have a next closest outlet that you know for sure is protected with a 20 amp breakers just plug in there and if you have to get a longer air hose to reach where you are working.... cheaper than doing a rewire. When you locate the 20 amp protected outlet you shouldn't have any problem. When I use my Makita 3 H.P. compressor I haven't had any problems. If you don't have the funds to get a longer air hose and you already have a 12ga. extension cord that will reach the proper outlet then just use that. Hope this helps.
A: Thank you for your question on the on the MAC5200.Call the Makita Call Center during business hours at (800)4-MAKITA, they’re based in Buford, GA and are ready to help.
A: Have you replaced your breaker, maybe it’s weak.
A: CHANGE THE PUMP OIL TO 0-20W SYNTHETIC OIL. I KEPT BLOWING FUSSES AND THAT'S WHAT WORKED
A: I would not advice transporting this unit in an upright position, other then its normal position, because it has an oil reservoir. If you have to transport it in the upright position, I would let is stand for a few hours, to a day, to make sure all the oil returns to the reservoir. If oil somehow seeps into the piston area, you could damage it permanently, and have costly repairs.
A: Thank you for your question on the Mac5200 3.0 HP Big Bore Air Compressor. Please ensure you transport this compressor with its wheels and feet down. For more details please call the Makita Call Center during business hours at (800)4-MAKITA, they’re based in Buford, GA and are ready to help.
A: If you mean transporting with it sitting on the wheels and the rubber feet then yes. I would chock the wheels with something and brace it on all sides with something so it doesn't move when starting and stopping and turning corners.
A: Not advisable, because this unit has an oil reservoir, and if oil seeps into the piston area, it could do severe damage.

A: If possible, I would get an amp meter and measure the amperage going to the compressor. If it exceeds manufacturer recommendations, then it is probably your compressor. If not, then it is probably your control mechanism faulting, which can be repaired at a reasonable cost.

A: I can only go off my experience, but mine did not come with oil in the compressor. You may want to contact customer service in regards to this.
A: Typically this device comes with several labeling messages to add the oil prior to use. I recently purchased this unit and had to unbox and add my oil myself. it's quite possible that the dealer you purchased it from already added the oil especially if it was already unboxed.
A: I purchased this unit, and it does not come with oil already in the unit. The reason, is because if the box is not shipped upright, oil could seep into the piston area, and then damage it. If the one you purchased already had oil in it, it may have been returned to the store. However, if it runs OK, I wouldn't worry about it. The damage caused by oil seeping into the pistons would cause immediate problems.
A: Thank you for your question on the MAC5200 3.0 HP* Big Bore Air Compressor. This tool was designed to be used for nailing and fasting. Never the less this tool has a Powerful 3.0 HP motor produces a duty cycle of 6.5 CFM at 90 PSI and a performance of 6.9 CFM at (40PSI). The maximum pressure is 140 PSI.
A: I purchased one of these particular units, and it has performed outstanding, however I have not used it to spray spackle. I think that it would do the job though. I purchased a spare 10 gallon tank, to use in series with high velocity jobs.
A: This MAKITA 5.2 GAL. 3.0 HP will do 6.5 CFM @ 90 PSI and it refills really quick so you can continue to keep working.

A: Thank you for your question on the 3.0 HP* Big Bore Air Compressor this tool was designed to be use with 1/4 in fittings a larger diameter hose will increase the capacity and is ok as long as duty cycle is not exceeded.
A: I use this compressor with the Dewalt 50 ft. x 1/4 in. Air Hose and it works perfectly. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-50-ft-x-1-4-in-Air-Hose-DWFP1450D/206350404
A: It comes with the first bottle of oil so just continue buying the same kind.
A: Synthetic compressor oil.
A: I’m sure either is fine. The main consideration is to use the proper weight as per the manufacturer. I use Mobil 1 in all my machinery, it’s more expensive however it’s worth it.
A: It comes with it. in the box i would use synthetic motor oil if it needs But when yiu buy it new it comes with it ...
A: Thank you for your question. You can use either synthetic or conventional oil, just don't mix the two. Refer to your owner's manual for recommended oil.
A: I have a firman 4000 starting watt and it?s pulls it. But it?s at the limit at start up. Running it?s not a huge tax on the generator That?s the smallest it will do as all my overload lights go on
A: Thank you for your question. Makita does not have a direct recommendation for generators. This compressor uses a 120v single phase motor, draws 13.8 amps and max pressure and requires and minimum of a 15 amp circuit.
A: you only need 120 volts ac. to operate this unit
A: I use an eight thousand watt , probably wouldn’t use much smaller, trial an error if it takes a bit to start with any smaller you will burn compressor up cause of low voltage.
A: The cord is located on the side of the unit, and there is a wire bracket to wrap the cord up and secure it.
A: The cord is located on the side of the unit.
A: Thank you for your question. The cord on the MAC5200 is located on the lower, left side (motor side) of the compressor.
A: The cord is located on the side and wraps around for storage.
A: Facing the front of the compressor look to the left and behind the air tank and you will see a black plastic box that is about 2 1/2" x 3 1/2 x 2" deep, this is the switch box and you will see an on/off switch on its front and the power cord will be coming from this switch box. Your question kind of raises flags as the cord should be plainly visable...but there is a chance that for shipping purposes the wound the cord and stick it in behind the tank area. It has been a while since I got mine so I don't remember where the cord was on mine. There is a space there so that would be the place to look. Feel where the cord comes from the switch box and you will find the whole cord. If here isn't any cord I would box it back up and take it back to your Home Depot and get another one ...same model of course as this is a good compressor. A cord might seem like a small thing to take it back for but if quality control missed the cord who knows what else is missing or not hooked up correctly . After all you paid for a whole working compressor.
