A: Hi GN,
No,,, the wood on this fence is not pressure treated. For best protection, staining and/or top coating with a quality stain or sealer is recommend a month or so after installation.
Hope that helps.

Q:Hello! Is the entire 6 ft. X 8 ft. redwood panel 100% heartwood? Is all the redwood that makes up the panel 100% kiln dried? Is this redwood pre-made fencing panel made in California or at least in the United States? Thanks!

Q:Is there a best practice for mounting/attaching these to 4x4 pressure treated posts? I only see a small surface to screw them directly in and it got me wondering if there is additional hardware required? If so, what exactly? Thanks in advance.

A: Hi there-
I purchased several of these for fencing on the side of my house and used 3" Deckmate coated deck screws to attach them to the 4x4 support posts. Three screws on each side panel. Worked like a charm and the fence sections are as sturdy as can be.

Q:Some of the answers in the question and answer section reference metal posts. I'm curious if that is one option as opposed to pressure treated posts, or is that the recommendation from the manufacturer?

A: Metal posts can be used but require special brackets to mount the panels to them. Your local Home Depot may carry the brackets, please contact your local stores Contractor Services desk for assistance.

Q:Is it better to install these panels such that (a) the posts sit in between panels or (b) the panels rest against another panel and are screwed into the posts (with the post 'behind' the panels)? The ends of the panels seem a little flimsy. Will they hold up best if we pre-drill holes and screw them into the posts, or should we use some other fastener?

A: You can choose to do what i did and install panels between the posts, since thats what looked like what was intended with the shape of the metal post. Or, you can space the posts further apart and run horizontal 2 x 4's to fix the panels to - end to end.
I can say the first way will demand your attention to detail because the panels will have little tolerance where they connect to the post. The ends are indeed a bit questionable so for sturdiness, you will want the screw to bite into it's meaty part and not screw in near the edge. It needs to fit snug for best result. The sure way to get a good fit on each post is to do one post at a time. screw in one side to a cemented post and then fit the other end to the next post (floating) before leveling and adding cement. Let it set till stiff before screwing on another panel and repeating. This means you will be using one expensive metal post every 8 feet.
The other way will let you install the posts first, in line with taught string and then fixing the horizontal supports fo the panels to fix too. Cheaper and faster but it defeats the good neighbor design by exposing the supports.
Connecting their ends front to back would be too weak and besides, what connects to the other end??
Or if you meant one post per panel,.... that could work too but i wouldnt trust the integrity of that joint. It would look a little like a zig zag and might add another challenge to line up the posts right.
The pic i included is of the fence sealed 2 days ago with thompsons clear seal. Note how we cut those silly pegs for legs (also very fragile) flush with the bottom and then mounted on top of a treated 2x4. Those 8' 2x4's were worth it because it made installing each panel alot easier. This i learned halfway through the job.

A: These panels are designed to be installed between posts. Each side of the panel should be screwed to a post.

A: I have this type of fencing all the around my backyard. I screw the panels in between the posts. This also makes for an easy and quick replacement of a panel.
