Q:This will be used as a shield on full spectrum infrared light bulb therapy that uses heat as well. If this is not a good substrate, what is a good alternative?

Answer This Question
A: Hello. Acrylic should not off-gas when used at normal operating temperatures, or at least below the continuous service temperature of 190 degrees-F maximum. However, if it is being processed (e.g., thermoformed), there might be a very small amount of MMA released, but not in a concentration that would exceed the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL). Also, Optix sheet mostly allows the shorter wavelengths of infrared to pass through, but isn’t as transmissive to the longer wavelengths of infrared energy. We would recommend trying out a sample of the acrylic sheet to make sure the desired results are achievable. Thank you.
