Q:I want to use this on my windows for my garage. If I use these with the reflective side out how bright will the reflection be when sunlight hits it directly? I don't want to annoy/blind my neighbors.

A:  It could be pretty bright! It's really shiny. Maybe put some tint in between this and the glass.

A:  I guess you could but keep in mind it’s insulation.

A:  It is very straight and not bendable. But it is basically like a giant piece of dense styrofoam with paper over it to make it smooth.  You can definitely attach posters or other things to it and stand it. I would not be pressing hard on it because even though it is firm, it is styrofoam.  We draped a large mural over it for display and it worked great.

Q:I have a 15 by 16 ; three season, Eeezy Breese porch, say three feet off the ground. I insulated the ceiling and underneath the deck floor with bat insulation. My question is about the deck floor; insulated between the floor joist with bat insulation BUT would like to install an insulation board to increase the R rating. Question: what type of insulated board should I use?

A:  Polyiso has the highest R-value per inch installed. Home Depot, carries R-Matte Plus-3 and Thermasheath. Either will work in this situation but I would recommend at least 1" thickness for increased board stiffness. Once the board is well secured with screws and washers or cap nails, use a construction tape to seal all edges of the board but make sure to use a hard plastic squeegee to firmly press the tape onto the board! This will help reduce air leaks through the assembly.

A:  Your insulation technique will depend on many factors including moisture/water permeability. Check with the Pros at Customer Service in your local Home Depot for options and inventory.

A:  what rating are you looking for, varies from 1/2" to 3"? you will need to have some vents to prevent humidity build up and mold problems

              Answer This Question

A:  Yes, the R value is only 3.2 which is really low. I use insulation in the walls and then this on the exterior to increase overall R value and limit any wind penetration.

              by|Jan 11, 2021

A:  It depends on the application. It can be used as a stand alone product depending on what youre using it for. If you are planning to insulate a dwelling this would be in addition to your standard R-13/ R-19 insulation in your interior wall cavities. This does not give you much R value on its own. Ive used at to sheath the exterior of a home before wrapping it in Tyvek.

A:  ThinHaus uses this product in combination with more flexible insulation materials in order to seal the gaps. You might do that, too. But if the opening fits here, this certainly can work by itself.

              by|Jan 11, 2021

A:  Really depends on what you want. This product is foil backed so you have a vapor barrier, but its really thin and give you only an R of 3. You need to cut to fit between the your 2x4 and seal the seams with foil tape or chalk.. This dents readily and can't be used as sheathing and can't be used as an underlayment layer.

A:  In most situations the 1/2 will be good, you may get the 1 inch or double the 1/2 .I have in my garage doors the 1 inch ,facing straight west with full afternoon sun.People have come into my garage and ask if I have A/C in my garage.I just insulated my doors and windows in the garage.

Q:How far do you need nailers it's hanging on a ceiling

                Answer This Question

A:  You will need as many fasteners as needed to temporarily hold it into place until the drywall is installed over it. Then, you should following the guidance for the installation of drywall. The length of the drywall fastener needs to account for the thickness of the insulation.

                by|Dec 28, 2020

A:  I assume you mean how far the nails should be spaced when attaching the board to the ceiling. Not sure what the ultimate construction will be, but as you may know the polyiso board is non-structural and rather soft. So if you are putting it up, I would assume you will then cover it with drywall. So you don't need all that many nails to keep the insulation board up, because when you attach the drywall below it that will keep the insulation up.

A:  Not sure what you are doing with this project, but this material is probably better when it's not exposed.
