The replacement filters found at your local Home Depot store are taller than the filters that we had manufactured in the past; and comes with integrated rubber plate, they will fit your RIDGID® wet / dry vacuum without using any adapter. Please follow the following installation tips: 1. Carefully slide the filter over the filter cage and press down on the outside edge of the filter until the rubber gasket on the bottom of the filter seats securely around the base of the filter cage and against the lid. 2. Align the small center hole in the top of the filter cage over the threaded bolt on the filter cage. You may need to press firmly on top of the filter near the bolt to allow the filter nut to twist. Additionally, this HEPA filter is good for wet and dry pick-up. Please note not to mix dry material such as concrete and drywall dust with any wet pickup when using the HEPA filter for wet and dry pickups. Wash out the filter between dry and wet uses when vacuuming these materials. A:  Hello BobTheBuilder, Thanks for your inquiry. First, we recommend that you clean your filter outside. To clean and wash the filter, simply remove the filter and knock any debris loose against the side of the dust drum or trash can. The filter then can be washed with water. Gently spray water over the filter - do not power spray the filter as it may cause tears in the filter. You will need to let the filter dry before reinstalling. It is best to let the filter air dry. Do not install a wet filter into the vac and use the vac to speed the drying process. After cleaning your filter, check for any small holes or tears on your filter. If there are any holes or tears in your filter, you will need to replace it - this hole / tear may cause your vac to operate at less than optimal performance and dust may come out of your vac. In addition, we advise that with normal usage of your wet / dry vac, your filter should be replaced twice a year. With heavy use or projects, you may need to replace your filter more frequently. A:  Hello Virgil, Thank you for your inquiry about our products. When picking up small amounts of liquid (2 - 4 inches (5 - 10 cm) of liquid in the bottom of the drum), the filter may be left in place. When picking up larger amounts of liquid (more than 4 inches (10 cm) of liquid in the bottom of the drum) we recommend that the filter be removed, if you are picking just pure liquid materials, Or use the wet foam filter VF3700, if solid debris are present in or on the liquid you are picking up. If the filter is not removed, it will become saturated and misting may appear in the exhaust. When this happens, take the filter out and let it dry before reinstalling. Note that when picking up large volumes of liquids, the liquid in the drum may reach a predetermined level and the float mechanism will rise automatically to cut-off airflow. This occurs to avoid liquids from entering the power head. When this happens, turn off the vac, unplug the power cord, and empty the drum.
