A:  I am confused as to just exactly what you are wanting to do. I am going to go with what you might be wanting to do is to hang the carpet like wall surface. I would NOT try that because the glue surface is designed to hold a FLAT surface with gravity from top to bottom. THE PRESSURE IS FORCING THE CARPET INTO THE GLUE AS YOU WALK AND AS IT LAYS WITHOUT PRESSURE. If you hang the carpet on the wall, where is the pressure to keep it attached to the glue? There is none! Then, the pressure of the rug to slide DOWN the wall is the dominate pressure. Over time, that is exactly what it is going to do. You are best to get a qualified carpet layer to come in and : .. Place tack strips and adhesive to the wall .. Put the covering or carpet against the tack strip and roll the surface to affix the covering to the adhesive. Then it might work. I have used tack strips and Liquid Nails with a Trowel. Very thin grooves for a thin surface. 1/8 or 1/4 for much heavy surface material. Experiment a small surface area to see how the liquid nails impacts on the surface material to give you a smooth rolled out surface. Sorry to be so long winded, but I tried to cover all the possible problems you are going to run into. Have your bag of uncommon weekend words handy and keep them soft so the kids and MOM do NOT hear them! Good Luck!!!!! 4 T Frames who used to be a handy man for hire. Q:Will this tape remove paint from outdoor painted deck if rug is lifted?

Answer This Question

A:  I have not tried it on a stained floor surface such as we use on decks, However, The glue when exposed and stuck on an unwanted surface, rubs off with a back and forth motion just like rubber cement. Just yesterday, I put it on raw plywood to hold canvas while I stretch and staple the canvas to the covered plywood. Am using the canvas covered plywood as surface boards layed out on the back seat of my new pickup for the dog. Bottom, sides, front and back boards are all separate and covered by canvas to protect the dog from slivers and abrasion. It also allows the vacuum to clean up the loose hairs. I find all kinds of uses for it. Sure helps get the job done without a lot of special shop words. 4 T Frames

A:  Have not taken up my stair carpet since installation with the double sided tape, so I am not certain if there is damage.

by|Mar 5, 2021

A:  I did not use this tape on hardwood floor. I used it to secure a piece of carpet over another piece of outdoor carpet at our back porch. I will say that the residue from the tape leaves a dark stain on the bottom carpet. Will not use again.

Q:Will the tape leave residual staining on carpet, if I choose to remove it in a year or two? (would like to use it to keep small entry remnant mats in place on carpet floor.) I'm worried that the chemical or glue that is on this tape will leave yellow staining over time, as some tape does to painted walls. Thank you

A:  Addition: Per the Mfg. ----Our double sided carpet tape is for the permanent installation of carpet where a tack strip is not being used. If this product is used to keep a carpet runner in place over a wall to wall carpet it will be difficult to remove and will damage the wall to wall carpet. We do carry a tape which is removable and re-positional and is safe for all floor surfaces including carpet. The model # is 50-580.----

A:  I would imagine so. It is pretty sticky. It may leave a residue or meld into some of the carpet fibers though, depending on load, length of time, and temperatures. Apart from that, it is strong enough to stick to both the carpet and the underside of the rug.
