Answer This Question

A:  That's a tricky question. We would need more info to answer it. Such as, where you intend to use this and what you are trying to protect it from. Please reach out to us at info@romabio.com and our team can give you better advice. Sending photos of what you'd like to paint as well as any inspo pics is very helpful.

Q:The tile is a dark tuscany era look, (image attached). If the limewash can be used, would it cause the tile to have a much softer/lighter appearance with very little original color to show through? I’d like the variation of the color to give some natural and not painted appearance a light beige, but no yellow/gold/brown. I’m assuming if it would work it would take several coats on the really dark tiles, is it possible for some tiles individually receive more coats than others without causing an uneven overall texture to the finish? Would brush strokes show or is there a method of application that would affect the smoothness? The uneven surface of the tiles is expected, but gritty or obvious brush strokes would not give a natural appearance which is the desired effect.

A:  If the surface is natural and absorbent, it can work. However, a backsplash can get messy and need cleaning. This is NOT a washable finish so it would need frequent touch-ups. As far as your question about coverage, you change the dilution for different areas. You can do 50% dilution where you want the most coverage and 100% where you want less.

Q:Can this be applied to smooth face brick? How do you determine if the brick has been sealed?
      by|Aug 8, 2023

      Answer This Question

A:  The brick can be smooth as long as it's absorbent. To test for absorbency, spray the brick face & mortar with water and see if the water soaks in and causes a change in color (indicating it was absorbed). If the water beads up, runs off or no color change occurs, the brick is sealed and is not compatible with the Classico Limewash in a distressed look. Check the mortar for absorbency as well, because anywhere you wish to use the paint must be able to absorb water.

Q:I plan on using the lime paint for exterior brick do you have to use water after you paint the brick to get the European effect I have well water outside on water spicket will that destroy the effect of the look I?m trying to see

A:  You wet the brick before applying the Classico Limewash so its damp when you put it on. This helps cool the brick and to draw the product into the surface for the best bond. Well water shouldn't have any effect on the finish by itself. If your home is prone to the rusty stains caused by some well water you should protect the home with Mineral Shield anywhere it frequently comes in contact with your water like around hose bibs, sprinklers, etc. That will help repel the stains and keep the finish intact longer. Reach out to info@romabio.com if you need more advice.

A:  You do not have to use water at all after using the product if you want to just leave it solid- But it will still patina (wear down) over  time from weather (which will likely take years). If you want it patinaed  immediately, you can use a bucket of water, and a large sponge to wipe offf the areas that you want.  I honestly don’t think well water would be any different than city water in this case. If you don’t want a patinaed look, they also have exterior flat paint, and also have a sealer now for the limewash to help it to stay longer-which to me is counterproductive for allowing the brick to breathe.  But everybody has a different idea of what they want. You can also directly email the Romabio company with any questions. They are very good about answering. You can find their website with contact information on the Internet. Good luck!

Q:Can this be applied with an airless paint sprayer?

            Answer This Question

A:  Absolutely. You'll need a sprayer with a minimum psi of 3000 and a tip with a .019" to .021" opening. Any smaller and the paint won't push through. The best results will be achieved when you also back brush it into the mortar joints and nooks & crannies in the brick. Also be sure to dampen the brick before using the sprayer to help draw the paint inside the surface which is critical.

A:  Yes it can but since it is limewash we wanted a fuller coverage and opted to not thin it down that much and used mason brushes to paint the brick.

A:  Hi Stacy. Sorry, but no. Classico Limewash cannot be used on floors. Its not durable enough to handle any foot traffic. It's too "soft". Also in some cases it can chalk and that would track white powder all over your home on shoes and feet. It is also not recommended on horizontal surfaces where water can pool.

A:  Yes, you use it on any brick interior or exterior. I used it on my exterior home and inside on my fireplace. Go directly to the Romabio website and you will see how much that will cover depending on how you choose to dilute it.. if you cannot find it on the website, there is a place on the website to ask questions.

A:  Hello. Yes, the Classico Limewash is ideal for exterior brick or stone surfaces. Just be sure the brick is unpainted, unsealed and can absorb water by giving it a quick water test. If it appears to soak water instead of repelling it, you're good to go. The estimates for coverage vary by brick type and dilution. Visit our website at romabio.com for all the info.
